For many years now MFP manufacturers have produced digital products, so it has become increasingly important to
power down MFP’s in the correct manner.  Sharp MFP’s are no different to any other brand or product that has a
hard disk and operating system… A structured shutdown and boot up is required.
Due to the more advanced features of new products the machines now have larger firmware files compared to
previous models. Consequently the boot up sequence is more intricate and timely which makes the boot down
sequence more important than ever before.
Due to all the factors above it is important to power cycle MFP’s correctly so the machine can back up data to and
park the Hard Disk Drive and upload data to the NVram.
The possible consequences of interruption to the boot down sequence are HDD crashing and or NVram data
corrupting. This can cause immediate failures such as error codes, machines not booting up, screen freezing or more
unusual issues which may take longer to resolve.
When powering on a machine it is important to allow the machine to boot up fully, as interrupting the sequence can
cause similar issues and also corrupt the firmware which will prevent the machine from booting up.
Recommended shutdown procedure
The machine should always be switched off via the on/off switch on the operation panel
Prior to the mains
being turned off inside the front cover and/or at the mains plug socket, this allows time for the relevent data to be
copied across all areas of the machine.
However, If the firmware has become corrupt it can be recovered by performing the Emergency Firmware Update
Procedure which can be found in the service manual or Handy guide.
If the NVram data has become corupted it can be overwritten with new data taken from a MFD of the same model
type, using Service simulation 56-02 Export data from a good machine onto a memory stick and then Import the
data onto the corrupt machine. Some set ups will be required after this as values will be slightly different model to
model.
If a HDD has crashed and is unrecoverable please ensure you update the Firmware, watermark data and Operation
manual when replacing the Hard Disk Drive.
