in the domestic currency, then when the conversion key is pressed, the
exchange currency rate and amount due will appear. The amount is then
entered in the currency you have chosen. A new screen will then appear
and ask  which currency you want to give the change in.
Function 52 is the EAN key. This would be used to manually enter a bar
code, as opposed to scanning it.
Function 53 is price enquiry. If the server presses this key before
scanning or entering a bar code or product, the screen will display the
amount of the product, then you can continue to sell at this price, or
cancel.
Price override is similar to the previous key, except that the price of the
bar code or product will be displayed and the server will then be
prompted to sell at this price or enter another amount.
A practical example of this would be for end of date lines to be sold at a
reduced price.
The next key function is Item promotion.
As mentioned previously there are 9 promotions on the machines. The
item promotion will apply one of these promotions to an individual
product within a transaction.
The promotions can be set as  percentage discount, percentage
premium or mark-down amount.
Function 56 is promotion override. This will allow the server to carry out
the promotion when the promotion is not active.
For example if a promotion of 25% discount is set to be given each day
between 3 o’clock and 5 o’clock and this promotion is pressed at say
10 past 5, the screen will  warn the server that the promotion is not
active, they can then press the promotion override key to activate this
promotion.
Function 57 is subtotal promotion. This key would be pressed to give a
promotion for the subtotal.
The server would press the promotion number followed by the subtotal
promotion key.
30
The next function is called set covers. This is used to enter the number
of covers, at any time for a table transaction.
Normally the covers would be entered at the beginning of the table
transaction. If the number of covers increase or decrease this key can
be used.
Function 59 is loyalty. When this key is pressed the EPoS will prompt
for a magnetic card to be swiped or card number to entered manually,
to apply the loyalty to the transaction.
The loyalty feature will be covered in more detail later.
Function 60 through to 68 are the modifier keys, these keys are used
for modified products such as half pint or double and so on
The next selection from the system configuration menu is special
prices.
This is where happy hour  and time led promotions are set.
The term Promotions on these machines refers to the discounts,
premiums or mark downs .
First we will look at happy hour price bands.
There are up to 3 happy hours price bands that can be set.
The way in which the happy hour works is you would set the day or days
of the week you want the happy hour to be active, then you set the time
span for these days.
For example if you want  happy hour 1 to be set so all the products are
automatically sold at price band 4, on Thursdays  between 7 o’clock and
8 o’clock, you would set up  the details as follows:-
Select a Y against the day, in this example that would be Thursday, then
enter the start time, which would be 1900 hours and the end time, which
would be 2000 hours, you then select the price band you want the
products to be sold at during this time, which would be band 4.
There are up to 9 promotional periods that can be set.
31
The promotions are similar to the happy hour in that you can specify a
particular day or days of the week and a time range, for the promotion to
be active.
However the promotion is not automatically carried out like the happy
hour prices. Instead the date and time is checked and if it is valid then
the promotion can be given.
Once you have selected the active field to be prom and the days and
time span have been set,  you would  enter the promotion number
between 1 and 9, you now need to press the end key to accept these
settings this will bring the cursor back to the number at the beginning of
the line.
It is only after completing these details that you can enter the letter D to
bring up a sub menu of the promotion details.
You will see from this screen that a description can be entered, such as
5% discount or 10% service charge, this will be displayed and printed
on the customers bill.
The next field is the type, this will change between premium, discount or
mark down.
You are then asked for the value, this would entered as a percentage if
premium or discount had been selected, or an actual amount of money
if markdown had been selected.
The trip value refers to the value the transaction must reach, before the
promotion can be given.
For example you may not want to give discount unless 10 pounds is
spent, setting the trip value to 10 pounds will achieve this.

The next field is the analysis.
If the analysis is set to no then this promotion will be applied to all the
products that have been set as discountable in the product file area.
If the analysis is set to yes then the cursor will move to the individual
fields for selection these are:-
starters
main
dessert
other food
drinks
other drinks
32
If any of these are set to yes, then any product assigned to this analysis
type and set to discountable, will be subject to the promotion.
Both promotions and happy hour  price bands are identified at server
entry and will remain active until the server is changed, this would mean
that if the time span elapsed but the server had not yet finished the
transaction, the happy hour would still be active.
There is an indication on screen that will warn the server that the happy
hour  is about to end. This will be displayed for the 5 minuets before the
period ends.
This ends the explanation for Special Prices section.
If the end key is pressed you will then return to the sub menu ready for
the next selection which is Printer Configuration.
The printer configuration is unique to each terminal, this is the area
where you set up the printers, that this particular machine will be
controlling.
The first field on this screen is titled active, select yes to activate this
printer.
The next area is printer, the printer type will change by pressing the
space bar key, the different selections are:- Receipt, Slip, Report,
Kitchen 1 to 9 , Audit and finally, Cheque.
The Cheque printer must be a TM-U950 this is the Epson 3 station
printer.
Once the printer type has been selected you then select the interface
type the choices are Serial, Parallel or Net.
The Parallel selection would only be required if program information
was to be printed directly from the EPoS.
This is not normally done, as an additional card is required and it is easy
to get this information printed from your computer.
The Serial would be chosen for all printers other than the Sharp
ER03RP or 04RP kitchen printers as these are network type printers
they therefore need to be set to net under the interface. The UP5700
does not use network type printers.
