earlier that there can be up to 9 keyboards on the 850 or 880 and 99 on
the UP5700.
In the next area you select the number of cash drawers available for this
machine.
Each machine can have up to 2 drawers, and each server can be
assigned a drawer number.
Also the cash declaration report can be taken against each drawer.
The auto table release selection refers to the servers being assigned to
specific tables.
If auto table release is set to yes, this would allow any server access to
any of the open tables on a system.
Therefore server 1 could start the order and a different server could
pick up the table to add further orders.
If however you only wanted the system to allow the server who started
the transaction to continue entries, on that table, then you would set auto
table release to no.
If no is selected there is another procedure to free the table for another
server. This would be by using the table release key which we
mentioned earlier in the function section.
The next choice is which port you want to connect the bar code scanner
to.
After that you select whether you want this particular machine to
produce an itemized receipt or total only receipt.
The void stay down function works in the following way.
If void stay down is set to yes then once the void key has been pressed
any number of the products on screen can be selected and voided.
if the void stay down is set to no, then only one product can be
selected, the void key would need to be pressed again for each product
to be voided.
The Vat receipt refers to the vat analysis being printed on the bottom of
the customers receipt. The vat content or number will not be printed if
no is selected here.
38
The display choice is between an integrated 1 line display, which fits in
the back of the machines, or the remote 2 line display which can be
connected through a printer on the 850 or 880, or can be connected
direct to the UP5700.
Auto loyalty is the next selection. The machine has in built loyalty
function the auto loyalty set to yes will automatically prompt the server to
swipe the loyalty card.
These machines can be fitted with a magnetic card reader for use with
the loyalty cards.
The loyalty function on these machines can work in the following ways
first the card to be swiped can be a straight forward discount card, for
example you could set up the machines to give 10% discount on the
transaction if the loyalty card is swiped.
The other method is more sophisticated. The machines can be set up
so that  the customers card details, together with the transaction details,
can be sent to a file, this file would then be used within an external
software package to monitor products purchased and amounts spent by
the customers. It could then be used for example to reward the
customer with points.
The loyalty could simultaneously give a discount, as well as writing
details to a file, for the software package.
The scroll time on this screen, refers to the amount of time in seconds,
If the server has not used the machine for that length of time then the
scrolling message will appear on the 2 line remote display.
The text to be displayed can be entered in another area.
There is a selection for consolidated printing.
The consolidated printing also includes sorted printing.
You will remember that each product is assigned to a type such as
mains, or starters and so on. The consolidation will group these types
together and also print them under headers, printing the starters
products first, followed by the mains products and so on no matter in
what sequence they are sold.
39
The consolidation printing will also consolidate same drink products on
to one line of print. Tthat is to say if the same drink product is sold 4
times in a transaction then it will be printed as 4 then the product name,
as opposed to 4 different lines of the same product.
This consolidation printing can be selected for receipts or bill or both or
not applied.

And finally from this screen we can take a look at the text messages that
can be set for the receipt, the bill and scroll text for the display.
As you know there are messages that appears below the bottom line on
each screen.
On this screen there is the choice of selecting the letter T. If this is
entered, then a screen will appear, ready for you to edit the receipt, the
bill, or the scroll text.
The receipt message and the bill message, may consist of 3 lines of
text, this text will then appear at the bottom of the receipt or bill when
they are issued. Please note the text here is not the text that will appear
on the top of the receipt or bill, the text at the top is known as the
system details, which will be covered on the next screen under system
configuration.
The scroll text consists of one line of up to 45 characters.
This ends the explanation of this screen.
The next selection from the sub menu is number 7 which is system
parameters.
The first entry to be made is the site number, this is purely a reference
code.
The number of tills then has to be entered, the figure entered here
should be the total number of devices on the system, so if you have 3
cash registers and 5 printers you should enter 8.
40
The system details are next to be entered these are 5 lines of text.
These lines of text are printed on the receipt header.
The top line alone is printed as the bill header and this top line is also
displayed on the screen.
There is then the field to enter the vat number. Followed by the vat rate
there are up to 6 rates that can be entered.
The next field is to select EFT as manual or automatic.
first I will explain the EFT system.
There are 2 EFT links available for these machines, one is provided by
a company called Commidea the other by a company called Checkline.
Both these suppliers provide software that will be installed on a
computer, then as a credit card is swiped through the mag card reader,
the computer will take over the transaction, an authorisation code will
then be provided by the bank and the transaction can be finalised on the
EPoS.
The selection you make is either manual or automatic.
Generally if you select automatic, the software on the computer will
automatically dial the bank for an authorisation code, where as if manual
is selected you may be required to phone the bank for authorisation.
The next highlighted area is that of loyalty, the loyalty function was
covered earlier, the selection here is to allow loyalty or disable it.
The maximum number of bar-codes is next to be entered this is a four
digit number entry. There is not much memory space taken up by bar-
codes as they are attached to a product code for report purposes.
The maximum number of products or is 8000, on the 850 or 880, and
dependent on the amount of memory available on the UP5700.
The maximum number of servers allowed on the system is next this can
be set between 1 and 999.
The maximum number of tables on the system can  be set between 1
and 99.
