4)  Turn the focus ring of the checking lens until the chart image projected on the screen is the sharpest at the center (y  = 0).
5)  Set the plane mirror to the center of the projected image (y  = 0), and adjust the projector position so that the mirror reflects the light to
the center of the lens.
2.  Projective Resolving Power Checking Method
1)  Turn the focus ring of the checking lens until the chart image projected on the screen is the sharpest at the center (y  = 0).
2)  Read the number of the smallest pitched lines at the center (y  = 0).

The number represents for lines per mm.
Sagittal (S)
Meridional (M)
 Fig.
4-4-3
3)  Rotate the mount rotational plate of the lens projector while observing y  = 9, y  = 12, y  = 15 or y  = 18 and stop it at the location where
the projective resolving power is worst (low).

Read the number of the smallest pitched lines (both sagittal and meridional: 3 lines) at the peripheral point.
Note:
When reading the number of the smallest pitched lines, be careful of the spurious resolution.

Spurious resolution is the reversed image of 2 or 4 lines which appears on screen when focus is beyond maximum revolving power as shown
in Fig. 4-4-4.

Do not confuse spurious resolution for the smallest pitched lines.

4)  Change the focal length and projected length of the checking lens. (In case of the zoom lens), project the S image and the M image at
each focal point/projected length and confirm that the number of resolution satisfies the specification of the Table 4-4-1.

5)  Check the projective resolving power. If the projective resolving power does not meet the specification, perform  4-4-2. Projective Re-
solving Power Adjustment .
4-4-2. Projective Resolving Power Adjustment
Check the projective resolving power. If the projective resolving power does not meet the specification, perform the projective resolving
power adjustment.
1.  Projective Resolving Power (Partial Blur: WIDE) Adjustment
1)  Remove the rear light shield barrel in the finished state.
2)  Loosen a little bit screws fixing the 5th lens block assy.
3)  Check the projective resolving power at the WIDE end (16 mm).
4)  Adjust by shifting the 5th lens block assy so that the projective resolving power meets the specification.
Note:
Move the 5th lens block assy in the direction to which the projective resolving power becomes the front focus tendency so that the partial blur
is improved.
5)  After adjustment, tighten screws to fix the 5th lens block assy.

When the partial blur is not improved, perform  4.Projective resolving power (partial blur) adjustment (adjustment by partial blur ad-
justment washer) .

2.  Projective Resolving Power (Curvature of Field: WIDE) Adjustment
Adjust this lens so that the center of maximum projective resolving power comes 5 cm before with respect to the focal point of the periph-
eral at the WIDE end.
Check the projective resolving power. Check whether the center of the projective resolving power locates forward or backward with re-
spect to the focal point of the peripheral.
1)  Disassemble the lens to the extent shown in Fig.4-4-6 (Optics Block Assy) and install the resolving power ADJ JIG, rear outer block
assy, back adjustment washers (all of the inserted ones) and mount block assy.
2)  Adjust the focus at the WIDE end (16 mm) so that the maximum projective resolving power of the lens center comes 10cm before the
focal plane of the lens peripheral.
Note:
Adjust the focus using the lever bundled with the resolving power ADJ JIG.

Do not change the focus point until the adjustment in step 8) is completed. (Fix tentatively the lever with a tape.)

Place other screen chip (art post paper) at 10cm before the focal plane of the lens center so that the adjustment can be efficiently performed.
3)  Confirm the location where the peripheral locates with respect to the center in the maximum projective resolving power.

(How far it is isolated from the plane of projection and whether it locates in front or back of the plane of projection)
Note:
Place other screen chip (art post paper) at the focal plane of lens peripheral and move it back and forth so that the confirmation can be efficiently
performed.
4)  Loosen the screws fixing 4th lens block assy with L-Shaped Hex. wrench (0.89 mm).

5)  Adjust by rotating the 4th lens block assy as follows.

Tighten the 4th lens block assy (forward): The peripheral moves backward with respect to the center.

Loosen the 4th lens block assy (backward): The peripheral moves forward with respect to the center.

* Target: The plane of projection moves 3 cm when rotating the 4th lens block assy by 1/4th turns.

* Reference location: Location where the 4th lens block assy is loosened by rotating by one turn after tightened once.
6)  Fix the 4th lens block assy by tightening the screws loosened in step 4).
7)  Confirm the focus points of center and peripheral in the projective resolving power.
8)  Adjust by repeating steps 4) to 7) so that the maximum projective resolving power of the lens center comes 5 cm before that of lens pe-
ripheral.

3.  Projective Resolving Power (Partial Blur: TELE) Adjustment
1)  Remove the front lens barrel block assy in the finished state.
2)  Remove the 1st guide pin and the adhesive bond.
3)  Install the 1st guide pins and tighten them.
4)  Loosen a little bit the G1 holding washer fixing the 1st front lens barrel block assy.
5)  Check the projective resolving power at the TELE end (35 mm).
6)  Adjust by shifting the 1st front lens barrel assy so that the projective resolving power satisfies the specification.
Note:
Move the 1st front lens barrel assy in the direction to which the projective resolving power becomes the front focus tendency so that the partial
blur is improved.
7)  After adjustment, tighten the G1 holding washer to fix the 1st front lens barrel assy.
8)  Apply the adhesive bond (B-50) to the gap (ring-like portion) between the 1st guide pin and the 1st lens holder.
9)  Apply the adhesive bond (B-50) to the oblong hole of 1st lens holder.

10) In case that the projective resolving power (Partial Blur: WIDE) (Curvature of Field: WIDE) adjustment is performed, check the pro-
jective resolving power again.

In case that the projective resolving power (Partial Blur: TELE) adjustment is performed, perform  4-5-2. Focus-shift/Flange Back
(f F) Adjustment .

When the partial blur is not improved, perform  4.Projective resolving power (partial blur) adjustment (adjustment by partial blur ad-
justment washer) .
