Incorrect copier counting when printing in
Black & White from Quark Express 4.0 on an
Apple Macintosh computer

Symptom:
When a black only print is required from the ARC150/250 via the ARPE1
using Quark Express 4.0 on an Apple Macintosh computer, a symptom can
be experienced where the copier still increases the colour counter and not
the black only counter.

This is experienced when the user selects Black & White or Greyscale from
the Print Colour mode selection within Quark Express and not the ARPE1
Fiery Print Driver.

Procedure:
Follow the instructions below to ensure that you correctly set the printer driver
and not the application’s Print colour setting.

(5) Now click on the Output tab. This is where you can go wrong and select Black & White or
Greyscale from the Print Colour option list of the application. Here it is set to print in colour.
(6) Below we can see the alternative options. If you select Black & White or Greyscale from
here the print job will still count as a colour click on the copier.

(7) To correctly obtain a Black & White only print and have the copier count for black only, click on
the Printer button at the bottom of the screen shot below.
(8) The Fiery driver will now open as shown below. Click on the General button and move
down to Printer Specific Options.

(9) Select Colour Mode as shown below and make your selection. Printer’s Default will choose the
setting that is set as default within the ARPE1 (The exact setting for this can be confirmed by
printing a configuration page from the ARPE1). CMYK will print in colour, and Greyscale will print
using black only and correctly count as black on the copier.
