Installation Of the ARPE1 on a Windows 9.x
Peer-Peer Network
Model Name:
ARPE1 Fiery Controller
Pre-requisites:
ARPE1 connected to a Windows 9x peer to peer network
ARPE1 connected to an ARC150
Windows 9x CD-ROM
Sharp ARPE1 User Software CD-ROM
Note:
The ARPE1 supports SMB “Point & Print” printing on a Windows 9x peer to peer
network. If the ARPE1 and the workstations however are on different  subnet’s of
the network, the use of WINS servers or a port redirector on each workstation will
be required for printing if the routers do not allow NetBIOS broadcast traffic to pass
through.  By default, routers normally block this type of network traffic.
Items in italics indicate icons, buttons, or menu options during installation.
Procedure:                  This Bulletin walks you through the steps necessary to configure the ARPE1
for Windows printing and the installation  and configuration of the print drivers.
This installation consists of four separate tasks:
(1)  Setup of the Windows 9x Workstation.
(2)  Setup of the ARPE1.
(3)  Installation of the Windows 9x Print Driver.
(4)  Configuration of  the printer driver.
Setup of the Windows 9x Workstation
All computers in the workgroup must have the following settings to
print to the ARPE1.
1.  Right click on Network Neighbourhood.  Click on Properties.
1.1. Verify that Client for Microsoft Networks and the TCP/IP protocol
stack have been installed for the network card within the
Configuration tab.  If Client for Microsoft Networks is not installed,
select  Add, Client, Microsoft and then Client for Microsoft
Networks.
If  TCP/IP is not installed, select Add, Protocol,
Microsoft
 and then TCP/IP.

1.2. Highlight TCP/IP and click on Properties.  Click on the IP Address tab and verify that both
the IP address and subnet mask are correctly set for the workstation. All machines must
have valid, unique IP addresses with identical subnet masks.
1.3.  All computers must have unique computer names that must be 15 characters or less.  In
the network dialog box, click on the Identification tab.  Enter a computer name and a
workgroup name.  These must be 15 characters or less.  The computer name must be
unique and the workgroup name is usually the same on all PCs.
1.4. Click on OK and reboot the workstation when prompted to do so.
This procedure must be performed on all of the Windows workstations that will print to
the ARPE1.  Return to Step 1 to change or verify settings on each of the Windows
workstations.  Once the Windows 9x computers are set up you may continue to the
setup of the ARPE1.
