MSBlast Virus Protection

Description:
MSBlast or W32.Blaster.Worm is a virus that exploits the DCOM RPC
vulnerability using TCP port 135. This virus only targets Windows NT, 2000,
2003 & XP machines.

Because the AR-PE1 uses Windows NT4 operating system, the controller is

The following symptoms may occur if the AR-PE1 is affected by the virus:-
1. The Controller keeps rebooting by itself.
2. Failure to Print (Jobs are spooled/ripped)
3. Complete loss of data from the Job Log

To note, the AR-PE2 and AR-P15 are not affected by this virus.

For existing SharpEye subscribers, the updates can only be found on the

Note:
When downloading and installing the update patches, the 1-ANKZ9.ps
(SP6a) patch MUST be installed first, prior to downloading and installing the
1-ANC11.ps (Hotfix) patch.
DO NOT Download both patches together to the direct queue.
Also, the above patches must not be installed onto earlier AR-C150 System
Software (v1.01,1.02 or v1.03).

Procedure:
1. Insert the CD containing the update patches into the CD drive of the
AR-PE1.
2. Using Fiery Downloader or Command Workstation, browse the AR-PE1
CD drive and download the 1-ANKZ9.ps patch (approx 417MB) to the
Direct Queue.

3. After the system returns to “Idle”, wait 60 seconds.
4. Reboot the Print Controller.
5. After the Boot sequence finishes, the LCD will display a message that
SP6a is being installed. Once SP6a is completed, the system will boot to
“Idle”.

6. Reboot the Print Controller again. When the server is “Idle”, print a
configuration page to verify the patch is installed (the Update Information
section should contain the patch number 1-ANKZ9).

Please Note: Upon Boot, the NT System will now have a password for the

7. Download the 1-ANC11.ps patch (approx 10MB) with Fiery Downloader
or Command Workstation to the Direct Queue.
9. Reboot the Print Controller. The Controller should “Boot Up” and should
automatically reboot itself.
10. When the server is “Idle”, print a configuration page to verify both patches
are installed (the Update Information section should contain 1-ANKZ9 &
1-ANC11).
