When the download is complete, FTP DL displays a “Writing update into Flash memory”
message. In addition, the message “Please wait at least 4 minutes” is displayed. The 4 minute wait
ensures that the NIC has sufficient time to fully write the updated firmware into Flash memory.
The NIC will then automatically reset and run the new firmware in Flash memory.

This user should acknowledge that the NIC has performed a reset by clicking the “OK” button.
The update procedure is now complete.

Procedure
1. Use a Web browser to access the HTML pages in the NIC.
2. Examine the firmware version number to ensure that it matches the firmware that was
downloaded into the NIC.
Failure Recovery
If the Write-to-Flash starts but does not complete, DO NOT RESET THE NIC OR POWER
CYCLE THE PRINTER. The NUP is still in RAM and allows a reconnection and another attempt
to download. Please follow the failure recovery procedure below.

to download. Please follow the failure recovery procedure below.
Failure Recovery Procedure:
1. Escape (Ctrl C) from the FTP DL
2. Using a standard FTP client program, perform the Manual Update Procedure described
Note: If the NIC is reset, the NUP in RAM is lost. If the Flash has been corrupted, the unit will
only restart in IPX download mode. The IPX Flash-up Utility must then be used to load
the unit Flash memory.

Download Flash Update Code and write to Flash memory
The Flash Update Code must be downloaded into RAM. The NIC Update Program then writes
that code into NIC Flash memory.
that code into NIC Flash memory.
Procedure
1. Execute FTP using the device IP address, “update” as the username and “update” as the
password.
2. Switch to binary mode using the FTP “BIN” command. The UPD file must be transferred
to NIC RAM in binary mode.
3. Using the FTP “PUT” command, transfer the appropriate UPD file (example:
OTExxx.UPD) to the NIC.
4. When UPD file transfer is complete, the NIC will reset and execute the new code in Flash
on restart.
5. Break the FTP connection (you may need to use Ctrl C).
