4-11. COM (SERIAL I/F)
4-11-1. General
This test checks that the serial I/F section on the AT board functions
normally or not.

4-11-4. Test contents
(1) Signal line test (with loopback connector)
Use a shorter (loopback connector) to execute the loopback test of
data, checking for contact of the signal pins.
1
SD a RD line test
The following tests 1 - 3 are executed.
1. Data of 256 byte from 00h to FFh are sent at 9600bps, and the
received data are compared with the sent data.
2. Parity-added data are sent in 10 byte (00h to 0Ah) at 9600bps,
and the received data are compared with the sent data.
3. Produce an overrun error intentionally and detect the error.
2
RTS 3 CTS line test
After changing the output control signal RTS, check that the input
control signal CTS is changed or not.
RTS ON
3
 CTS ON
RTS OFF
3
 CTS OFF
3
DTR a DSR line test
After changing the output control signal DTR, check that the input
control signals DSR and CD are changed or not.
DTR ON
3
 DSR ON
DTR OFF
3
 DSR OFF
Execute the above tests
1
2
, and
3
 sequentially. Completion of
the above tests forms 1 pass.
(2) Signal line test (without loopback connector)
The loopback test of data is executed without using the shorter (loop-
back connector) to check that the signal pins other than the connectors
on the PWB are not in contact.
1
SD
3
 RD line test
The following tests 1 ~ 2 are executed.
1.
Data of 256 byte from 00h to FFh are sent at 9600bps, and the
received data are compared with the sent data.
2.
Parity-added data are sent in 10 byte (00h to 0Ah) at 9600bps,
and check that no data are received.
2
RTS a CTS line test
After changing the output control signal RTS, check that the input
control signal CTS is not changed.
RTS ON a CTS not changed
RTS OFF a CTS not changed
3
DTR a DSR line test
After changing the output control signal DTR, check that the input
control signal DSRCD is not changed.
DTR ON a DSR, CD not changed
DTR OFF a DSR, CD not changed
Execute the above tests
1
2
, and
3
 sequentially. Completion of
the above tests forms 1 pass.
(3) Parameter function test (with loopback connector)
This test is used to check send/receive operations in all possible combi-
nations.
00h - 7Fh when the word length of send/receive data is 7 bit.
00h - FFh when the word length of send/receive data is 8 bit.
SD
3
 RD line test
When send/receive operations in all the possible combinations are
completed, this test is terminated.
(4) Character transport test (with loopback connector)
Character data entered from the keyboard are sent, and the send data
are received through the shorter (loopback connector) to check send/
receive operations.
Send data and receive data are displayed on the display.
(5) Signal line I/O test
The RTS line and the DTR line are changed to HIGH or LOW to check that
the signal level is changed accordingly. The CTS, DSR, and CD lines are
also displayed.
Selection of [HIGH, LOW, NO CHANGE] is available. When set to HIGH,
the output level becomes high. When set to LOW, the output level
becomes low. When set to NO CHANGE, the output level is not changed.
(6) +5V out
+5V output is provided to the COM port.
(7) Hand scanner read test
The hand scanner is used to read bar codes and display in ASCII codes
and hex codes.
(8) Error table
