6 MECHANICAL FUNCTION
6.1.
Paper Feed Mechanism-1 (In case of scanning standard or thin paper in
the Auto mode)
1. When documents are set on the Hopper and the scanning command is issued from PC, the Hopper rises and the
documents are brought into contact with Paper Feed Roller.
2. The Conveyor Motor is driven to rotate the 5 Drive Rollers (Drive Rollers 1 to 5) and the Exit Roller.

3. When the Paper Feed Motor and Separation Motor start, the Paper Feed Roller and the Separation Roller turn in the
    feed direction.
The DFP Roller is supported by a shaft fixed via a torque limiter, and it is pushed against the Separation Roller.
When the document enters the separation section, the DFP Roller exerts a manipulation force onto the documents,
which depends on the set torque. In case of continuous paper feed, the documents are separated by this manipulation
force, and so only a document is fed to the scanning section.
4. When the leading edge of the document passes through the Waiting Sensor, the Paper Feed Motor stops,
and then the Paper Feed Roller is turned by the advancing document.
5. When the leading edge of the document passes through the Drive Roller 1, the Separation Motor stops,
and then the Separation Roller is turned by the advancing document.
6. When the leading edge of the document passes through the Starting Sensor, image scanning starts
    after the defined period.
(i.e., the time required for the document to advance from the Starting Sensor to the scanning start point.)
7. When the heeling edge of the document comes to the defined position from the Waiting Sensor, the Paper Feed Motor
and Separation Motor are driven again to feed the 2nd document.
8. Steps 3 to 7 are repeated.
9. After all documents have been scanned, the Hopper returns to its original position and the scanning sequence ends.
Note:
When the scanner’s buffer becomes full, the scanner stops to prevent buffer overflow, while allowing the data
to be transferred to the PC continuously. When enough free buffer area is secured again, the scanner
resumes the scanning process.

6.2.
Paper Feed Mechanism-2 (In case of scanning thick paper on the Auto-
Feed mode)

3. When the Paper Feed Motor and Separation Motor start, the Paper Feed Roller and the Separation Roller turn
    in the feed direction.
The DFP Roller is supported by a shaft fixed via a torque limiter, and it is pushed against the Separation Roller.
When the document enters the separation section, the DFP Roller exerts a manipulation force onto the
documents, which depends on the set torque. In case of continuous paper feed, the documents are separated
by this manipulation force, and so only a document is fed to the scanning section.
4. When the leading edge of the document passes through the Drive Roller 1, the Paper Feed Motor and Separation
Motor stop, and then the Paper Feed Roller and Separation Roller are turned by the advancing document.
5. When the leading edge of the document passes through the Starting Sensor, image scanning starts after the defined
period. (i.e.,: the time required for the document to advance from the Starting Sensor to the scanning start point.)
6. When the heeling edge of the document comes to the defined position from the Waiting Sensor, the Paper Feed Motor and
Separation Motor are driven again to feed the 2nd document.
7. Steps 3 to 6 are repeated.

6.3.
Pressure Detection of Paper Feed Roller
When the scanner lifts up the Hopper, the Hopper will come into contact with the Paper Feed Roller.
The contact with the roller will push the Roller Holder Unit upward. This pressure will bring the Beam into contact with
the Pin (for the Roller Pressure Sensor), which distorts the Beam at a point. Roller Pressure Sensor will detect the beam distortion,
which enables the scanner to know the amount of distortion and to adjust the Hopper pressure to each document.

6.4.
ADF Mechanism
When the DFP Pressure Motor is driven, the DFP Adjustment Shaft will turn around based on the motor gear's rotation.
The cam will increase the pressure of the DFP Press Plate as the cam attached to the DFP Adjustment Shaft turns around
and moves up in small increments.
This pressure will hold the DFP Roller's position (DFP Plate) upward via DFP Spring, which enables the DFP Roller to press
a document and Separation Roller.
On the other hand, when the cam attached to the DFP Adjustment Shaft turns around and goes downward, the DFP
Roller will separate from the Separation Roller thoroughly.
In this way, the cam position determines a pressure to a document and Separation Roller.
