16. On PC, check into the [I agree] box on “Digital Player Soft-
ware Update tool”, and click the [Next] button.
Note 7: The language displayed in “Digital Player Software Update tool” 
changes with linguistic environment of PC.
17. On PC, confi rm that all applications are terminated, and click 
the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update tool”.
18. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 
click the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.
The current software (Version=0.91) of the NWZ-F880Series(MSC) devide will be

Note 8: “WALKMAN” is rebooted automatically.
The software of the NWZ-F880Series_0020(MSC) device will be updated from
Version=0.91 to Version=1.00.

20. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 
click the [Finish] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.
Note 9: The contents which have failed in updating may be displayed, 
but there is no problem.
21. On PC, unmount the USB storage, and disconnect the USB 
cable for the WM-PORT (accessory) from PC and “WALK-
MAN”.
22. Perform initialization by the following procedure.
 Tap  - 
 [Settings] - [
 Backup & reset] - [Factory data 
reset] - [Reset device] - [Erase everything].
 
Your Walkman restarts automatically after being initialized.

4.  USING  METHOD  OF  THE  SERVICE  MODE  TOOL
4-1.  GPS (Except Chinese model)
By displaying the receiving data of the satellite, the operation 
check of the GPS sensor built in this unit can be performed.
Execution condition:
When the defect of GPS operation is suspected, be sure to perform 
this mode.
Note: Chinese model does not need to perform this mode.
Preparation:
• 
Install the service mode tool in “WALKMAN” with reference 
to “2. INSTALLING METHOD OF THE SERVICE MODE 
TOOL” (page 21).
Note: “DiagTestMode” is used in this mode.
• Confi rm that the circumference is the environment of the 
outdoors which the sky has opened.
Procedure:
1.  Start “DiagTestMode” by tap the “DiagTestMode” icon.
 
(The display position in the following fi gure is an example)
2.  Scroll the screen by fl icking.

of “SNR”, it can be judged that GPS operation is normal.

Note 2: The value of “SNR” is greatly dependent on the signal reception 
environment from the GPS satellite.
 
When there is an obstacle in the direction of the sky, the value of 
“SNR” falls.

Note 1: After work is completed, uninstall the service mode tool abso-
lutely.
 
  (Refer to “3. UNINSTALLING METHOD OF THE SERVICE 
MODE TOOL” on page 23 about procedure)
Note 2: When this unit connects with some site in order to perform the 
operation check (When the connection with WiFi and the opera-
tion check of browser, etc. are performed etc.), the WiFi setting 
list and the history of browser, etc. remain on this unit.
 
    In that case, perform reset and initialization with reference to 
page 4.
 
    (When initialization is performed, all user informations are 
cleared)
