Printer Accounting Server: Administrator’s Guide
Printer Accounting Server: Administrator’s Guide

Preface
Given that networks often consist of a diverse collection of leg-
acy hardware and software, it is difficult to find an effective
way of tracking and recovering printer resource costs.
acy hardware and software, it is difficult to find an effective
way of tracking and recovering printer resource costs.
Printer Accounting Server (PAS) helps you audit and manage
the cost of network resources by tracking printer usage on an
individual or group basis. It provides the software infrastruc-
ture on which you can build a secure environment for manag-
ing sensitive documents.

Any automated accounting system must be able to identify con-
sumers, measure resource use, calculate costs, and record
transactions at the time of “sale”. A good accounting system
also provides an audit trail that classifies and summarizes data
in a way that meets the information needs of decision-makers.
PAS performs these tasks and more. PAS can accommodate a
number of accounting models, including strategies for quota
and chargeback cost-recovery. Its administrator and end-user
features provide flexible and easy use.

Integrating fully with the Windows NT/2000 printing sub-
system, PAS provides a secure environment for network print-

unauthorized users from accessing them, and restricts use to

The distributed PAS architecture provides for robustness, and
scalability in the Windows NT/2000 printing environment.
State-of-the-art page counters mean that PAS is compatible with
most major print vendors.
