Printer registration errors

Note: As of PAS 2.5, this is a workaround solution in both UNIX and Nov-
ell systems until a future revision re-works the protocol from System
Manager to the UNIX/Netware server. Future revisions will enable the
remote system to identify the name used when communicating with
the Accounting Server, and register the printer with that name instead
of the SM node name. The current protocol also causes problems when
running in an NT cluster environment, due to problems with Netbios
aliasing.

Configuring PAS
Once the printers have been configured on the UNIX server,
you need to register them in PAS using the System Manager
application

Register the printers in System Manager
1. On the management workstation, start System Manager.
2. Add the UNIX print server as a server under your site
node using its DNS name. Refer to the PAS Administra-
tor’s Guide for System Manager configuration.

3. In the System Manager tree view, expand your UNIX
server node.
4. Expand the Print Server node and select
Printers
.
All of the UNIX printers that you have created appear in
the right pane.

5. Select a printer from the list.

Status
column indicates that the printer is not regis-
tered.

list, click
Register

log, enter information to describe the selected printer.
8. If you are setting up more than one logical printer defi-
nition for a single physical device, in the

section, select the appropriate physical device from
the drop-down list.

9. Optionally, in the following three text boxes, enter the
printer’s duty cycle, rated speed and recommended vol-
ume, as specified by the manufacturer. Your printer
specifications should provide this information.

4.1 On the network workstations
1. On the network workstations, connect to the new printers
that you configured on the UNIX server.
2. Install printer drivers on each workstation as needed.
