SAL70200G2 (2.8/70-200 G SSM Ⅱ) (70-200mm F2.8 G SSM II)
2. Shooting procedure
1)  Click the [Start] of Defocus Checker 2 or DSLR-A700 Defocus checker to start the measurements.
2)  Adjust defocus value to obtain  0
μ
m  in the manual focus mode.

The tolerance is  0
±
 10
μ
m . (Fig. 5-6-3)
3)  Click the [Stop] of Defocus Checker 2 or DSLR-A700 Defocus checker.
4)  Shoot an image by self-timer.
5)  Perform the steps 1) to 4) by using the AE master lens and the lens to be tested.
Note 1:
Shoot images with the AE master lens and the lens to be tested using the same camera.
Note 2:
Perform entire work within 10 minutes because values become unstable as the camera temperature increases.

If the work continues for 10 minutes or longer, cool down the camera and then restart the work.
Note 3:
Since focusing error amount increases in shooting images at a middle or long distance, comprehensive focusing error amount cannot be
determined correctly only by results with short-distance setting. If the shooting distance using a 60 times chart cannot be ensured indoors,
take either of the following methods.

Method 1

Use 35 mm full size type camera (SLT-A99) and 40 times chart. (When using the 40 times chart, shooting distance can shorten to 2/3 of
60 times chart.)

Method 2

Check the focusing error amount of short distance using 20 times chart temporarily. After that, shoot the something images outdoors in the
middle distance for using 60 times chart, and then check the focusing amount of middle distance.

3.  The focusing error amount check
1)  Open the images shot with the lens to be tested and the AE master lens by the image display software on the PC. (Display the images
at the same pixel magnification.)
2)  Check the displacement between the focus position (peak of image-formation) of the lens to be tested and the focus position of the AE
master lens. (Refer to Fig. 5-6-4 and Fig. 5-6-5.)
3)  Compare the error amount in step 2) with the reference value of Table 5-6-3 and check whether the error amount is within the accept-
able range. If the error amount is outside of the range, perform  5-10-2. Focusing Error Amount Adjustment (Write
SB) .

<For reference 1: shooting image by AE master lens> (Fig. 5-6-4)
•  Assume it standard image in the setting environment.
•  If the peak of image-formation is to equal distance with AF assist chart position, it is ideal. In actual fact, the image of before and
behind the peak is displayed. (Because the environment, the individual difference of camera and lens conditions are combined.)
•  The image of before and behind the peak, assume it reference standard image.
•  When shooting the image with sharpness setting of the camera to  +  side, it is easy to distinguish the peak of imaging area remarkably.

Example of image shot with
a certain AE master lens under
a certain environment.
Identifying the peak position of
image-formation:
• Center of sharpest area
• Center of area with less color fogged
    - Front defocus area: Magenta fogged
    - Rear defocus area: Green fogged

<For reference 2: The example of focusing error amount value check> (Fig. 5-6-5)
Check the displacement between the focus position (peak of image-formation) of the lens to be tested and the focus position (peak of
image-formation) of the AE master lens.
Example of image shot with lens to be tested (50 mm F1.4)

of the rear scale)
Peak area
(existing around 6 to 7 cm
of the front scale)
Error amount = approx. 14 cm
 Fig.
5-6-5
Example of decision:
The lens to be tested has a tendency of backward defocusing compared to the AE master lens. The error amount is approx. 14 cm.
Compare this error amount with the reference value and check whether the error amount is within the acceptable range.
If the error amount is outside the acceptable range, perform  5-10-2. Focusing Error Amount Adjustment (Write
SB) .
5-7.  INSTALLATION OF LENS ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM
5-7-1. Installing the Lens Adjustment Program (ActuatorCheckerSSM)
Equipment used
• Personal Computer
•  Lens Adjustment Program (ACSSM-S-VerXXX.zip)
•  Finished Inspection JIG II (AC 100 - 240 V)
Note 1:
Personal computer must have the condition that Windows Vista/7 runs normally and USB is connectable.
Note 2:
Acquire the Lens Adjustment Program (ACSSM-S-VerXXX.zip) from the each HQ.
1.  Saving Lens Adjustment Program (ACSSM-S-VerXXX.zip)
1)  Unzip the Lens Adjustment Program (ACSSM-S-VerXXX.zip)
2) Save ACSSM-S-VerXXX.exe  in an arbitrary folder.
Note:
The version of  ACSSM-S-VerXXX.exe  might be updated.
5-7-2. Connection of Finished Inspection JIG and Startup of Lens Adjustment Program (ActuatorCheck-
erSSM)
Note 1:
Confirm that 5-7-1. Installing the Lens Adjustment Program (ActuatorCheckerSSM)  has been completed before this procedure is executed.
Note 2:
In case of performing Finished inspection, be sure to perform in the condition that the lens is laid down (do not perform in the lens standing
condition).

2.  Startup of Lens Adjustment Program (ActuatorCheckerSSM)
1)  Turn on the personal computer and the finished inspection JIG II.
2) Start up ACSSM-S-VerXXX.exe  from an arbitrary folder.
Note:
•  At the first time using, the followings appear on the screen (Fig. 5-7-2).
It is required to ask HQ about the password for the Com/User Characteristic Number and the manufacturer/type name of the personal
computer.
Ex.  Com/User Characteristic Number :  iYdDZfq9q

Personal Computer :
SONY PCV-RZ33P
•  It is no need to input password to the computer once registered.
(The screen requires password does not appear.)
•  If the personal computer or the finished inspection JIG II is changed, the password and the Com/User Characteristic Number are
changed. Therefore on the startup, the password input is required again.
