Balance
You can adjust the balance between the left and right chan-
nels of the front speakers.
1
Press the MENU button repeatedly to make "SP LEVEL"
appear.

Within 10 seconds, press the ITEM button.

(Main unit operation)
Within 10 seconds, turn the jog dial clockwise to increase
the right speaker level (the left speaker level will de-
crease), or turn the jog dial anticlockwise to increase the
left speaker level (the right speaker level will decrease).
(Remote control operation)
Within 10 seconds, pressing the SET UP 
W
 button will
increase the right speaker level (the left speaker level will
decrease), or pressing the SET UP 
X
 button will increase
the left speaker level (the right speaker level will de-
crease).
If the jog dial is turned continuously, or the SET UP (
W
or 
X
) button on the remote control is held down, the
speaker level can be changed continuously.
The speaker balance, as shown in the display, can be
changed within the range of "1" to "7".
Note:
The surround speaker balance will not be changed.
To make the balance flat
In step 3, use the jog dial or the SET UP (
W
 or 
X
) button
on the remote control to make "FRONT BAL." appear.

COMPACT DISC OPERATION
To select the next disc number:
When stopped, press the DISC SKIP button.
Press the

 button.
Playback of the next disc will begin, after which each fol-
lowing disc will be played sequentially.
Notes:
When the DISC SKIP button is pressed during playback,
playback will begin automatically from the next disc. (It is
not necessary to press the 
0
 / 
R
 button again.)
When one of the disc number buttons (    1 -    3) is
pressed during playback, playback of the selected disc will
begin automatically. 
(It is not necessary to press the

 /

 button again.)
Loading and playing CDs

Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the power on.

Press the CD button.

 OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.

Place the CD(s) on the disc tray, label side up.
CDs can be placed on any open position on the disc tray.
Be sure to place 8 cm (3") disc in the middle of a disc
tray.
Caution:
Do not stack CDs in the tray.
This can damage the player and the CDs.

When loading a third disc, press the DISC SKIP button
to turn the disc tray, then place the CD in the open po-
sition.

 OPEN/CLOSE button to close the disc tray.
The total number of tracks and the total disc playing time
will be displayed. At this time, the disc number indicator
is flashing.

Press the desired disc number button (     1 -      3).

Playback will begin from track 1 on the disc you have
specified to play.
After the disc finishes playing, the next disc will play au-
tomatically.
When there is no CD in one of the disc 1 - 3 positions,
that position will be skipped and the next CD will be
played.
When the last track on the third disc has finished playing,
the unit will stop automatically.
To interrupt playback:
Press the CD PAUSE

To remove the CDs:

the remaining disc.

Press the ON/STAND-BY button to enter the stand-by mode.

APSS automatically locates the beginning of any track.
To listen to the track being played again:

Note:
APSS will move forward or backward from any point on the
disc before playback begins. It will not move forward during
playback of the final track.
Caution:
Do not carry the unit with discs left in the disc
trays. The discs may come loose inside the unit,
and they may be damaged or cause damage to the
unit. This may also cause malfunctions.
Do not place two CDs in one disc position.
Do not push the disc tray whilst it is moving.
Do not attempt to turn the disc tray by hand.
This may cause malfunctions.
If the power fails whilst the tray is open, wait until the
power supply is restored.
If the disc tray is stopped forcibly, "ERROR" will ap-
pear in the display and the unit will not function.
If this occurs, press the ON/STAND-BY button to enter
the stand-by mode and turn it on again.
If TV or radio interference occurs during CD operation,
move the unit away from the TV or radio.
If a disc is damaged, dirty, or loaded upside down,
the disc will be skipped and the next disc will play
automatically.
Do not press the ON/STAND-BY button frequently dur-
ing CD playback. If you do, the "E-01" error will be
displayed and the CD may not operate. If this hap-
pens, press the ON/STAND-BY button one more time,
to enter the stand-by mode. Then, turn the power on
again. The error will be cancelled.

Repeat play indicator

Repeat play
All of the tracks on up to 3 discs, or a programmed sequence
can be continuously repeated.
To repeat all of the tracks on up to 3 discs:
Press the

Programme a sequence of up to 32 tracks.

(Remote control operation)
The tracks on the disc can be played in random order au-
tomatically.

Load the CD(s) and close the disc tray.

Press the RANDOM button to begin random play.
"RANDOM" will appear.
Note:
When using random play, be sure to press the CD 
 but-
ton, or set the unit in the stand-by mode when you finish
listening. Otherwise, the disc will play continuously.
To cancel random play:
Press the
