1. Operation Principles
1-1. Operation Principles of Ice Maker
1-2. Operation Principles of Dispenser
1. This function is only available on model which can
dispense water and ice without opening the freezer door.
2. “Crushed Ice” is automatically selected when power is
first on or power is on after power cut.
3. If the selector switch of dispenser is continuously
pressed, the lamps of “Water”
“Cube”
“Crushed”
are on in this order.
4. The dispenser lamp is on when dispenser rubber button
is pressed and vice versa.
5. Dispenser supplies crushed ice, when crushed ice is
selected and dispenser rubber button is pressed, by the
operation of dispenser solenoid and geared motor if
there is ice in the ice bank.
6. Dispenser supplies cubed ice, when cube is selected
and dispenser rubber button is pressed, by the operation
of dispenser solenoid and cubed ice solenoid and
geared motor if there is ice in the ice bank.
7. Dispenser supplies water, when water is selected and
dispenser rubber button is pressed, by opening the
water valve fixed at right side of the machine room if the
water valves normally work.
8. Dispenser does not supply ice and water when freezer
door is open.
OPERATION PRINCIPLES AND REPAIR METHOD OF ICEMAKER AND DISPENSER

Initial Control
Icemaking Control
Ice ejection Control
Water Supply Control
Test Control
• Wait until the water in the ice tray cools down by icemaker.
• It checks ice in the ice bank by rotating the motor in normal and reverse directions.
It ejects ice from icemaker to ice bank if the bank is not full of ice.
• This is for refrigerator assembly line and service. If “Icemaker Test Switch” is pressed,
  the icemaker operates “Initial
 Ice Ejection
 Water Supply” Control by force.
• It supplies water to ice tray by operating water valve and then control icemaking.
2. The Function of Icemaker
2-1. Initial Control Function
1. It checks the level of ice tray after completion of MICOM initialization when power is first on or power is on after power
cut. Sensor lever moves up and down.
2. It checks the level of ice tray with high and low output signals of hall IC. It rotates geared motor in normal or reverse
direction to level ice tray by applying high/low output signals to MICOM pin (No.42).
3. If there is no change in signals one minute after the geared motor starts to operate, it stops icemaker operation and check
the signal every hour. It resets initialization of icemaker when it becomes normal.
4. The initial control is judged to be complete if the ice tray is judged to be leveled.
5. When power is first applied, ice ejection carries out during one cycle time even there is no ice in the ice bank.
2-2. Water Supplying Control Function
1. It supplies water to ice tray by operating water valve located at the machine room in the refrigerator when the ice tray is
judged to be leveled after the completion of ice ejection control (normal ice ejection control and ice ejection control of test
function).
2. The amount of water supplied is determined by DIP switch, that is the time setting of water supplying.
<Table. The amount of water supplied>
3. The setting of the amount of water supplied can be changed without switching off. When DIP switch is changed during
supplying water , the water is supplied for the previously set time. But new setting time is applied from the next water
supplying.
4. The water shall be supplied to the water valve and then ice valve when water supplying signals are generated at water
and ice valves at the same time while water is supplied to the water valve. On the other hand the water shall be supplied
to both water and ice valves at the same time if the signals are generated while water is supplied to ice valve.
2-3. Icemaking Control Function
1. Icemaking control period is the time between the completion of water supply to the ice tray and the completion of
icemaking. Icemaking sensor detects the temperature of ice tray and stops icemaking work.
(icemaking sensor is mounted at bottom of ice tray)
2. Icemaking control starts as soon as water supply and initial control are complete.
3. Ice is judged to be made if the temperature of water in the ice tray reaches at -8
°
C in 100 minutes after water supply was
complete.
4. Icemaking is judged to be complete if the sensor reaches at -12
°
C after twenty minutes from the above condition 3.

* The amount of water supplied is
determined by the setting of DIP
switch. The water pressure also
affects the amount of water supplied if
it is directly connected to the city
water faucet. (The average amount of
water supplied by each time setting
option is 80~120cc)
* DIP switch is in main PWB.
2-4. Ice Ejection Control Function
1. Ice ejection control is to eject ice from the ice tray when icemaking is complete.
2. It is the stage to check if ice bank is full of ice. If the signal of hall IC is on (“high”) in 3.6 seconds after rotating ice ejection
motor in normal direction, it judges that the ice bank is full of ice and it does not eject ice but wait. It checks the ice bank
every hour by rotating ice ejection motor in normal direction. If the ice bank is not full of ice, it carries out water supply
control after completion of ice ejection control. If ice bank is full, it rotates ice ejection motor in reverse direction and stops
at ice making or waiting conditions.
3. If ice bank is not full of ice (if the signal of hall IC is off (“low”) in 3.6 seconds after rotating ice ejection motor in normal
direction), it carries out ice ejection work by rotating ice ejection motor in normal direction (clockwise direction) until ice in
the tray is ejected from the tray. And the feeler arms automatically move up.
4. If the signal of hall IC changes from off (low) to on (high), it stops ice ejection motor for one second as it judges that it is
the maximum torsional point (ice detection axis + 160
°
C). If there is no change in hall IC signals in one minute after
operating ice ejection motor, it stops ice ejection motor as it judges the hall IC is wrong.
5. If ice ejection motor or hall IC is wrong, it rotates ice ejection motor in normal direction every hour and performs the initial
operation. It resets the icemaker in normal conditions.
6. The ice tray stops for one second at the maximum distortioned condition.
7. After one second, ice ejection motor rotates in reverse direction to make the ice tray level.
8. If ice tray becomes level, then “Water Supply
Icemaking
Ice  Ejection
Return to Level” cycle repeats again.
2-5 Test Function
1. This function performs when test switch under ice maker is pressed for more than 0.5 second to operate by force
Icemaking
Ice Ejection
Return to Level
Water Supply cycle for operation test, service, and cleaning.
2. Test button does not work during ice ejection and water supplying period but works when the tray is horizontal. If the ice
bank is full of ice, ice ejection and water supply controls do not work during test function.
3. If test switch is pressed down for more than 0.5 second when tray is horizontal, ice ejection operation will start. Therefore
water will spill when test switch is pressed if there is water in the tray. Ice ejection is followed by leveling and water
supply. It is therefore possible to check the troubles on ice ejection, level and water supply operations. If the test function
works normal, buzzer will sound and  water supply control starts to work. If there is no buzzer sound, check and repair it
as it is abnormal.
4. When water supply is complete, normal cycle “Icemaking
Ice Ejection
Return to Level
Water Supply” starts.
5. Remove ice from the ice bank and press test switch if tray is full of ice. This is because ice ejection and  water supply do
not work when ice bank is full of ice.
