TEST MODE
Note 1:
Regarding the notification symbol “R”
Because the number of the operating buttons of this product
are limited, some operations require use of the operating
buttons of the remote commander (RM-SE7 supplied with
the product). When a specific operation requires use of the
operating buttons of the remote commander (RM-SE7), “R”
is added to the specific operating procedure in this manual.
Example  MENU/NO  “R”  The  MENU/NO  button of remote
commander.
Note 2:
Incorrect operations may be performed if the test mode is
not entered properly.
In this case, press the  ?/1  button to turn the power off, and
retry to enter the test mode.
3. Common Test
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn the power on.
2. To enter the common test mode, press three buttons [DISPLAY],
the [ENTER/START] and [TUNER +] simultaneously. “TAPE”,
“AM” and “PM” is displayed.
3. To exit from this mode, press the  ?/1  button.
3-1. AMP Test
1. When the common test mode is activated, each time press the
 BASS/TREBLE “R”  button, the message “TONE MAX”,
“TONE MIN”, “TONE FLAT” is displayed in this order.
2. The message “Volume MAX” is displayed, when press the
[VOLUME +] button or   VOLUME + “R”  button. The mes-
sage “Volume MIN” is displayed, when press the  VOLUME
–   button or  VOLUME – “R” button.
3. Each time press the  DBFB “R”  button, the message  “DBFB
ON”,  “DBFB OFF”  is displayed in this order.
4. To exit from this mode, press the ?/1 button to turn off the
main power.
4. Repeat 5 Times Limit Release Mode
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press three buttons [FUNCTION],  [VOLUME +] and the [TUNER +]
simultaneously.
3. To exit from this mode, press the  ?/1  button.
5. Disc Tray Lock
The disc tray lock function for the antitheft of an demonstration
disc in the store is equipped.
Setting Procedure :
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn the set on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to set DVD function.
3. Insert a disc.
4. Press the [DVD   ] button and the Z (DVD) button simulta-
neously for five seconds.
5. The message “LOCKED” is displayed and the tray is locked.
Releasing Procedure :
1. Press the [DVD    ] button and the  Z (DVD) button simultaneous-
ly for five seconds again.
2. The message “UNLOCKED” is displayed and the tray is
unlocked.
Note:
When “LOCKED” is displayed, the slot lock is not released by
turning power on/off with the  ?/1  button.
6. DVD Ship Mode
* This mode moves the optical pick-up to the position durable
to vibration. Use this mode when returning the set to the
customer after repair.
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn the set on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to set the function “DVD”.
3. Press three buttons [VOLUME +],   Z  (DVD) and  >  (DVD)
simultaneously.
4. After a message “LOCK” is displayed on the fluorescent
indicator tube, pull out the AC plug.
5. To exit from this mode, press the ?/1 button to turn the set
on.

1. Cold Reset
The cold reset clears all data including preset data stored in
the RAM to initial conditions. Execute this mode when
returning the set to the customers.
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn the power on.
2. Press three buttons [DISPLAY],  [ENTER/START]  and  ?/1
simultaneously.
3. When this button is operated, display as “Initialize” for a while
and all of the settings are reset.
2. Panel Test Mode
This mode is used to check the software version, LCD, LED
and keyboard.
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn on the power.
2. Press the [FUNCTION]  button to set the function except
“TUNER”.
3. Press three bottons [DISPLAY], [ENTER/START] and   TUNER
–  simultaneously.
4. When the panel test mode is activated, all segments are turned
on.

2-1. Version Test Mode
Procedure:
1. When the panal test mode is activated, press the [DISPLAY]
button and the model name and destination is displyed one
after the other.
2. Whenever press the [DISPLAY] button, the version is displayed
in order of MC, GC, ST, TA, TM, MD, DVD and USB.
3. Press the [FUNCTION]  button and the date of the software
production is displayed.
4. Press the [FUNCTION]  button again and the version is
displayed.
5. To  exit from this mode, press three buttons [DISPLAY],
[ENTER/START] and  TUNER –  simultaneously.
2-2. Key Test Mode
Procedure:
1. When the panel test mode is activated, press the [SYNCHRO
MODE] button, to select the key test mode. In the key check
mode, the fluorecent indicator displays “K0 J0V0”. Each time
a button is pressed, “K” value increases. However, once a
button is pressed, it is no longer taken into account. When all
keys are pressed correctly, “K24 J0V0” is displayed.
2. To  exit from this mode, press three buttons [DISPLAY],
[ENTER/START] and  TUNER –  simultaneously.

5. Selecting the Test Mode
There are 26 types of test modes as shown below. The groups can
be switched by pressing the  . “R” or  > “R” button. After
selecting the group to be used, press the  ENTER/YES “R”  button.
After setting a certain group, pressing the  .  “R” or >
“R” button switches modes shown below.
Refer to “Group” in the table for details can be selected.
All items used for servicing can be treated using group [Service].
So be carefully not to enter other groups by mistake.
Note:
Do not use the test mode in the [Develop] group.
If used, the unit may not operate normally.
If the [Develop] group is set accidentally, press the MENU/NO
“R”  button immediately to exit the [Develop] group.
MD  TEST MODE
1. Precautions For Use of Test Mode
As operations related to loading will be performed regardless
of the test mode operations being performed, be sure to check
that the disc is stopped before setting and removing it.
Even if the  Z  (MD) button is pressed while the disc is rotating
during continuous playback, continuous recording, etc., the
disc will not stop rotating.
Therefore, it will be ejected while rotating.
Be sure to press the  Z  (MD) button after pressing the MENU/
NO “R” button and the rotation of disc is stopped.

2. Setting the Test Mode
Procedure:
1. Press the ?/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to enter “MD” mode.
3. Press three buttons of  MD x , [FUNCTION] and [NET MD]
simultaneously.
When the test mode is set, “[Check]” will be displayed.
Pressing the  .  “R” or >  “R” button between the
following three groups; ···Tt [Check] Tt [Service] Tt
[Develop] Tt ···.
Note:
Do not use the test mode in the [Develop] group.
If used, the unit may not operate normally.
If the [Develop] group is set accidentally, press the MENU/NO
“R”  button immediately to exit the  [Develop]  group.
3. Releasing the Test Mode
Press the  REPEAT/FM MODE “R”  button once and press the
 ?/1  button to turn the power off, the set goes to the standby mode.

7. DVD Power Manage Mode
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  button to turn the set on.
2. Select the FUNCTION to DVD.
3. Press the  ?/1  button to turn off the main power.
4. While depressing the [DVD     ] button, press the ?/1 button.
5. The message “DVD POWER OFF” is displayed.
6. Select the FUNCTION to TUNER.
7. Press the  ?/1  button to turn off the main power.
8. Repeat step 1 to 4.
9. The message “DVD POWER ON” is displayed.
4. Basic Operations of the Test Mode
All operations are performed using the  .  “R”  ,  >  “R”  ,
 ENTER/YES “R” ,  MENU/NO “R”  and CLOCK/TIME SET “R”
buttons.
The functions of these buttons are as follows.

5-1. Operating the Continuous Playback Mode
1. Entering the continuous playback mode
(1) Set the disc in the unit. (Whichever recordable discs or
discs for playback only are available)
(2) Press the . “R”  or  >  “R”  button to display
“CPLAY 2MODE” (C36).
(3) Press the   ENTER/YES “R”   button to change the display
to “CPLAY2MID”.
(4) When access completes, the display changes to “C =
 AD = 
 )”.
Note:
The numbers “   ” on the display show you error rates and ADER.
2. Changing the parts to be played back
(1) Press the  ENTER/YES “R”  button during continuous
playback to change the display as below.
When pressed another time, the parts to be played back can be
moved.
(2) When access completes, the display changes to “C =
 AD = 
 )”.
Note:
The numbers “   ” on the display show you error rates and ADER.
3. Ending the continuous playback mode
(1) Press the  MENU/NO “R”  button. The display will
change to “CPLAY 2MODE” (C36).
(2) Press the  Z  (MD) button and take out the disc.
Note:
The playback start addresses for IN, MID, and OUT are as follows.
IN
: 40h cluster
MID : 300h cluster
OUT : 700h cluster
For details of each adjustment mode, refer to “SECTION 5  ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS”.
About “Err Display” (C02), please refer to a page 4 self-diagnosis function.
If a different mode has been selected by mistake, press the  MENU/NO “R”  button to release that mode.
Modes with (

) in the Mark column are not used for servicing and therefore are not described in detail. If these modes are set accidentally,
press the  MENU/NO “R”  button to release the mode immediately.
5-2. Operating the Continuous Recording Mode (Use
       only when performing self-recording/playback
       check)
1. Entering the continuous recording mode
(1) Set a recordable disc in the unit.
(2) Press the  . “R” or   > “R”  button to display “CREC
2MODE” (C37).
(3) Press the   ENTER/YES “R”   button to change the display
to “CREC 2MID”.
(4) When access completes, the display changes to “CREC
2( 
 )” and “           ” lights up.
Note:
The numbers “   ” on the displayed show you the recording position
addresses.
2. Changing the parts to be recorded
(1) When the  ENTER/YES “R”  button is pressed during
continuous recording, the display changes as below.
When pressed another time, the parts to be recorded can
be changed. “
