A messaging facility has now been added to Venta PRO. The purpose is to allow messages to be
sent to individual POS/Servers. In addition printer failure messages can also be sent to individual
servers or Tills.

Due  to  the  complexities  of  this  function  ALL  settings  are  in  S2001.INI.  These  should  be
customised at installation.  There should only be a limited requirement to change these settings
so they will remain in S2001.INI

It is also possible to send messages from the POS using a new function.

It is possible to send messages to individual Tills or Servers or multiples of.

POS Sent Messages  –  These  can  be  activated  and  read  using    the  new  function  Keys  (F93  –
View Message and F94 Compose Message). They can also be sent from an external device using
the structure in

These keys can be added to the List so that messages can be read and written. The “Compose
Message” could be put on one machine only. Both keys can also be under management control.
If the Compose Message key is pressed the following screen is displayed.

The destination of the message can be set as :-

Till – All – System Wide Message
Till – Single – Till Specific Message
Till – Range – A Range of Tills
Handhelds – Single – Handheld specific message
Handhelds – Range – Range of Handhelds

Servers – Single – A specific server – The server MUST be logged on at the time of send. This
is primarily designed for HHT Operation
After selection a numeric value can be input from the QWERTY keyboard into the specific input
boxes next to the message destination selections.

A message can then be typed and sent to the relevant area using the “Send” button.

When a message arrives for the relevant recipient the following will be displayed :-

The message arrival indication will flash to show message receipt.

It  is  also  possible  to  send  messages  from  an  external  source  (i.e  Back  Office  PC)  using  the
following procedure :-

1.  Any txt file received in the \VAPP\DATA\MESSAGES will be processed if in the following

format.

2.  File formats should be as follows :-

Header lines
$TARGET defines POS tills as destinations

Examples:

$EXPIRY determines how long the message will remain before being automatically deleted,

At least 1 target must be defined. £SOURCE and $EXPIRY are optional.

This contained in a file called message.txt deposited in the C:\VAPP\DATA\MESSAGES folder will
send the message  “Fire alarm test is at 14:00” to  Tills  1-10 and Handhelds 1-20  from  operator
“The Boss” and the message will stay active for twelve hours.

Printer  Messages  -  On  Venta  PRO  V2  and  V3  these  settings  are  in  S2001.INI.  They  are
designed to notify specific areas when printers are off line or out of paper.

The settings in S2001.INI are as follows :-

The setting PRT_TARGET is used to direct the messages as follows

PRT_TARGET.n=m

-  Sets printers on individual tills “n” to have messages sent to m

PRT_TARGET=m

-  In conjunction with PRT_TARGET. Sets all remaining Tills to message to m

PRT_TARGETX.n=m -  Sets printers on individual tills “n” to have messages sent to HHT m
PRT_TARGETS.n=m -  Sets printers on individual tills “n” to have messages sent to Server m

Where 

n=The Till Number and
m= Till/Serve/HHT Device Number
