New Backup and restore options have been added the new procedures allow for the
reconstruction of the master till following Hard Disk replacement, with minimum loss of data.

The master till can only be restored to the state at the time when the last backup was made.
The backup can be produced at EOD or via a scheduled windows task or manually from within
VPM – File – VentaPro Backup.
The backup will contain

• 

fixed configuration data (products, lists etc)

• 

sales data from the Master only. These are cash, product, dept etc totals.

• 

Context data, such as various sequence numbers

• 

All current transactions in the system

• 

Current deposits

• 

Time & Attendance database

• 

Button bitmap images.

• 

Product information

• 

Netmap.txt

 and 

S2001.ini

• 

log files

• 

pending spool files

The folder c:\Vapp\User can also be created to store any other files or folders ie Room files,
noticeboard text files, Cashrsp files. If a folder is created within c:\Vapp\User and it isn't empty its
contents and any subfolders will be backup and restored.

All backed up data will be put into a single 

zip

 file.

A 

Restore

 can only be performed using VPM. Not everything need be restored; there is a selection

of the following groups:
1.  fixed configuration data (‘Fixed’)
2.  sales data, transactions, transaction history, deposits, T&A (‘Sales and Activity’)
3. 

Netmap

 and 

S2001.ini

 (‘Till Setup’)

4.  log files and spool files (‘Till Output’)

There is one exception to the restoration of data – the value of the next transaction number. To
avoid a possibility of this being reset to a lower number than has already been used, a check will
be made that it is not lower than the pre-restore value. If it is, the pre-restore value will be
retained. In either case, 1000 will be added to the number.

Manual Backup

1.

Select VPM – File – Venta Pro Restore.

2.

If Venta Pro is running Choose Yes to “Is VentaPro running”.

3. 

To include Transaction History within the backup file select the ‘Include Transaction
History’ option. The number of days that the Transaction history is set to be kept for will
determine how long the backup will take to be performed. This setting is found within
VPM – System Configuration – Other – Transaction history expiry

4. 

Choose a destination path and enter a file name for the backup file.

5.

Automatic EOD Backup

1.

Select VPM – Configure – System Configuration – Backup.

2.

Select ‘Backup type’.

• 

None – This will disable the EOD backup

• 

• 

Full (with tran history) – This will enable the EOD backup including Transaction
history.  Depending on the amount of transaction history files the backup could take
longer.

3.

Enter the full path of the zip file for the backup including the .zip extension
Note if %s is added to the end of the path the file name will be replaced with the date
date time, YYYYMMDDHHMM of the backup so that multiple backups can be create

Scheduled Task Backup

It is possible to take a backup at anytime by running a batch file or via a Windows scheduled task

1.

To perform a backup via a windows scheduled task or containing transaction history data
create batch file eg. VSBackup.bat containing the following line.

echo DOBACKUP c:\VentaBackup%%s.ZIP  >C:\Vapp\DATA\REMIN\VTBackup001.TXT

2.

echo DOBACKUPQ c:\VentaBackup%%s.ZIP  >C:\Vapp\DATA\REMIN\VTBackup001.TXT

Note: The 

%%S

 will date and time stamp the backup file name.

3. 

Select Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Scheduled Tasks – Add
Scheduled task.

4. 

Select Next and then Browse to the location of the VSBackup.bat file.

5. 

Choose whether the task is to be Daily/Weekly etc and also the time the task is to be
performed (not during buy period) eg 04.00am
