Manual recording
To interrupt recording:
Press the menu button.
To resume recording, press the menu button again.
To stop recording:
Press the

Playback sound-actuated recording
The unit starts recording when a signal from LINE IN
socket is detected (Synchronised recording).

Connect the external equipment to the unit.

To interrupt recording:
"
When the external equipment is stopped, the data
number increases by one and the unit will enter the
synchronised recording pause mode. When playback
is resumed, recording will also resume.
"
If a silence lasts for 3 seconds or more, the data num-
ber increases by one and recording will be paused.
When the unit receives sound again, recording auto-
matically starts.
"
A new data is created when recording resumes.
To stop recording:
Press the 
 button.
To cancel synchronised recording:
After steps 3 - 6 on page 35, select "Off" in step 7.
Note:
Data recorded with the unit are named automatically as
follows.
FM radio recordings: F001.mp3, F002.mp3...F999.mp3
Line-in recordings: L001.mp3, L002.mp3...L999.mp3
Microphone recordings: M001.mp3, M002.mp3...M999.mp3
(Maximum number: 999)
Newly saved files are numbered sequentially following
the largest number among the existing file names. It is
recommended to delete or move files from one with the
largest number. To transfer data to a PC, see "To use as a
USB storage device" on page 43.
Recording from the FM radio 
Check the memory status beforehand (see page 42). If
the memory is low, move some data to a PC to make
some room.
To interrupt recording:
Press the 
 button.
To resume recording, press the 
 button again.
To stop recording:
Press the menu button.
Data will be saved.

Tune in to the desired station. (Perform steps 1 -
5 in "Tuning" on page 29.)

Changing file size and sound quality for recording 
With this product, you can change the sampling fre-
quency, mode and bit rate to control file size or sound
quality. The following are the default values for micro-
phone, FM radio and line-in recording.
Default settings for "Mic"
"Sampling": 8,000 Hz, "Mode": Mono, "Encoder": PCM,
"BitRate": N/A
Default settings for "FM" and "LineIn"
"Sampling": 44,100 Hz, "Mode": Stereo, "Encoder": MP3,
"BitRate": 128 kbps
