13. Rotate the two roller bearings in the direction indicated
by the arrow A, then remove them.
14. Move the E capstan roller in the direction indicated by
the arrow B, then remove it in the direction indicated
by the arrow C.
15. Attach the E capstan roller in the reverse order of steps
1 to 14.

Service Mode
Activation
1.
Turn on the power while pressing the  MENU  and  SAVE  keys.
2.
Release the  MENU  and  SAVE  keys when message “Test1 to Test6/7 Exit” is displayed at the top
of the monitor screen.
4-1. Confirmation and Adjustment of Video Output Level
1.
Move the yellow frame to “Test1” using Arrow keys (
 and 
) and press the  ENTER  key.
2.
Confirm that a yellow frame exists in the color-bar character and press the  ENTER  key.
3.
A color-bar signal is displayed on the monitor screen.
4.
Press the Arrow keys (
 and 
) and select so that the video output level (SYNC to white 100%)
satisfies the specifications.  After that, press the  ENTER  key.

To increase the video output level, press the 
 ↑ 
 key.  To decrease it, press the 
 ↓ 
 key.
5.
When message “Test1 to Test6/7 Exit” is displayed with the color-bar signal disappearing, select
“Exit” and press the  ENTER  key.
4-2. Density Adjustment During Thermal Head Replacement
Before replacing the thermal head, print the test pattern (LINEAR STEP) used as the reference of density
in the old head (defective head) state or normal state.

. Be sure to make an automatic fine print in the OFF state when performing the density adjustment.  For
the setting of the automatic fine print, refer to the Operation Manual (described in section 1-3 of the
manual).
. The test pattern of an old head is used only when the thermal head is not completely damaged due to
black or white stripes.
Procedure
1.
Set the ribbon and paper.

Use the products below as the paper to be set.
Postcard-size photo-paper SVM-25LS
2.
Select “Test6/7” in the service mode and press the  ENTER  key.
3.
Confirm that a yellow frame exists in the Test6 (Test Print) character on the monitor screen.  After
that, select “Step” using Arrow keys (
 and 
) and press the  ENTER  key.
4.
Confirm that an orange mark exists in “Step” on the monitor screen and press the  PRINT  key.
A printer starts the printing of a density adjustment pattern (LINEAR STEP).
5.
Replace the thermal head.
6.
After replacement, print the test pattern (LINEAR STEP) again.

7.
Perform the density adjustment so that the obtained density is equal to the reference density.
To increase (decrease) the print density
Increasing the density: Turn 
1VR1 (22 V ADJ.) of the power block clockwise.
Decreasing the density: Turn 
1VR1 (22 V ADJ.) of the power block counterclockwise.
Adjust 
1VR1 until the obtained density becomes equal to the reference density and print the test
pattern (LINEAR STEP).
8.
When message “Test1 to Test6/7 Exit” is displayed with the Arrow key ( 
↑ 
) pressed, select “Exit”
and press the  ENTER  key.

In steps 6 and later, the test pattern is printed only using one sheet of paper.

Troubleshooting
5-1. Electrical Troubleshooting
Electrical troubles are described below.
Trouble: No video signal is output. (No monitor screen is displayed.)
Remedy:
. Confirm flat cable FFC (VSDK05).
. Confirm IC202 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm that the input selector key is set to the memory stick or PC card.

A video signal cannot be output when the input selector key is set to the personal computer.
Confirm using the input selector key of the main unit.
Trouble: No memory stick image can be read.
Remedy:
. Confirm CN181 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm IC101 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
Trouble: No PC card image can be read.
Remedy:
. Confirm CN254 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm IC251 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
Trouble: A printer is not recognized by the personal computer.
Remedy:
. Confirm IC951 on the MD-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm IC101 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm flat cable FFC (MDDK26).
Trouble: The print color is not proper and the image is not normal.
Remedy:
. Make a gray print in “TEST6” of the service mode for confirmation.
(Refer to “4-2. Density Adjustment During Thermal Head Replacement”.)
. Confirm CN254 on the DK-41 board and the peripheral circuit.
. Confirm flat cable FFC (DKHE13).
