Configuring the AXIS 700/7000 Scanner
Now that the Exchange SMTP service is configured, the AXIS device has to be setup to communicate
with the Exchange server.
(1)  Open a web browser and enter the IP Address that has been already assigned to the AXIS
device. Refer to NIS Bulletin 009 for instructions of how to set an IP Address in the AXIS
700/7000.
(2)  Click on Admin and enter root as the user name and pass as the password (both lowercase).
(3) Click
on
Network Settings and then on Detailed View. The following screen will appear.
(4)  We now have to set the name of the domain in which the Exchange server is located and the IP
Address of the server that is running DNS. At this point it would also be beneficial to enter the
server IP Address that is running the WINS service. Below is an example configured screen shot.

(5) Click
on
Apply and then click on the E-mail (SMTP) tab at the top of the screen. Enter the IP
Address for the Primary Mail Server (the server where Exchange is running) as shown below and
again click on Apply.
In our example for the screen shots, our Windows NT4 server is running DNS and WINS. This
server also has the Exchange mail server running on it. In larger environments the Exchange
mail server may be running on a separate computer to the DNS/WINS service.
LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Setup
The AXIS 700/7000 includes the extra feature of being able to automatically communicate with a mail
server that is running the LDAP protocol. This then allows the automatic upload of email addresses
from the mail server in to the memory of the AXIS unit. In a large environment, this feature can save
many hours of manually entering email addresses as destinations in to the AXIS device.
(1) As standard Microsoft Exchange 5.5 is configured with LDAP enabled. To ensure that LDAP is
enabled on your Exchange server, open the Exchange Administrator program on the Exchange
server and go to the protocol menu as shown below.

(2)  Now double click on the LDAP (Directory) Site Defaults protocol to open the following screen.
Ensure that the Enable Protocol check box is ticked.
(3)  Click on the Anonymous tab and check to see if an anonymous connection is allowed using
LDAP.
(4)  We now need to configure the AXIS device to automatically upload any email addresses from the
Exchange server. Re-open a web browser connection to the AXIS device enter the admin section
and click on Network Settings and then on Detailed View.  Click on the External Address Book
tab. The following screen will appear.
