If you press the ûPLAY button on the remote control (DVD

• Slow-motion playback cannot be used in reverse.
• On some discs, the slow-motion playback functions are disabled.
To Return to the Still Picture Mode

Press the û PLAY button on the remote control (DVD player: 
).
Resume Function
When you have stopped a disc during playback, the Resume
function allows you to go back and start playing the disc at a point
just prior to the scene in which it was stopped.
• This function cannot be used for video CDs or audio CDs, and will not
operate on some DVD discs.

After you have stopped playback while playing a disc, press the
RESUME button on the remote control. Playback restarts from
just prior to the point where it was stopped.

Fast Forward
1
If you press the FWDè button on the remote control when a
disc is playing, the image begins to fast forward at low speed.
• On some discs, the fast forward playback is disabled.
• Audio and subtitles are not played back.

If you press the FWDè button on the remote control when a
disc is fast forwarding at low speed, the image begins to fast
forward at high speed.
(Fast forwarding switches between high speed and low speed
each time the FWDè button is pressed.)

Fast Reverse

If you press the ÈREV button on the remote control when a
disc is playing, the image begins to run backwards at low speed.
• On some discs, the fast reverse function is disabled.
• Audio and subtitles are not played back.
• Fast Reverse cannot skip over one or more titles.

If you press the ÈREV button on the remote control when a
disc is running backwards at low speed, the image begins to run
backwards at high speed.
(Fast reverse switches between high speed and low speed each
time the ÈREV button is pressed.)

Skip (Forward)
Skip (Forward): While you are playing a disc, this function jumps
forward to the beginning of the next chapter and automatically starts
playing that chapter.
• On discs or titles that do not have chapter settings, playback skips
forward to the next title.
• On some discs, the skip functions are disabled.
• Playback skips forwards one chapter for each time the SKIPà
button on the remote control is pressed.
When the last chapter is reached, playback returns to the start of the
disc.
• Unlike the Skip function on the remote control, the Shuttle Dial 
 on
the DVD player operates separately for the Direct Skip function.
(See pages 31 and 32.)

• Not displayed during the skip. Display resumes during playback
following the skip.
Skip (Reverse)
Skip (Reverse): While you are playing a disc, this function jumps
back to the beginning of the current chapter and automatically starts
playing the chapter again.
• On titles or discs that do not have chapter settings, playback skips
back to the beginning of the current title or disc.
• On some discs, the skip functions are disabled.
• Unlike the Skip function on the remote control, the Shuttle Dial 
 on
the DVD player operates separately for the Direct Skip function.
(See pages 31 and 32.)

control.
• The TV screen and front panel displays for this function are
the same as those for the Skip (Forward) function described
above.
If you press the ÀSKIP button on the remote control and
playback begins, and you then press the ÀSKIP button
again within 10 seconds, playback returns to the beginning of
the previous chapter.

Preparations:
To prepare for playing DVD discs, perform steps 1 to 4 in “Basic Play” (page 21).
Playing Video CDs with Playback Control (PBC)
• Pressing the û PLAY button begins PBC playback. Time display is not shown for some discs.
• If you specify the track number to be played (with playback stopped) and press the û PLAY button,
normal playback (not PBC playback) begins.

• Slow-motion playback does not function for video or audio CDs.
