System connections
"
Connecting to a TV with a video input
socket
You can enjoy DVD images by connecting your TV and this unit with a video cable.
Use an audio cable for the connection to enjoy DVD sound through the TV speakers.

"
Connecting to a TV with an S-video or
SCART input socket
If your TV is equipped with an S-video input socket, you can enjoy higher quality
images by connecting it with an S-video cable (not supplied).
You can enjoy DVD images by connecting your TV and this unit with the SCART
cable.
Notes:
!
Change the TV input in accordance with the connected socket.
!
Do not connect other equipment (VCR, etc.) between the TV and this unit. Pic-
tures may be distorted.
!
Refer to the operation manual of the equipment to be connected.
!
Insert the plugs fully to avoid fuzzy pictures or noise.
!
When playing a disc in DTS mode, no sound will be heard from the speakers. To
listen to the sound, select another audio output in the "To change the audio lan-
guage (audio output)" on page 22.
"
Magnetically shielded speakers
The speakers are magnetically shielded.
Therefore, they do not affect the display even you use them near the TV. However,
some colour variation may occur, depending on the type of TV used.
If discolouration occurs...
Turn off the TV (from the power switch).
After 15 - 30 minutes, turn the TV on again.
If the discolouration is still present...
Move the unit further away from the TV.
If any kind of magnet or an electromagnet is placed too close to the TV and the sys-
tem, irregular colours may appear on the TV screen.
Unplug all equipment before making any connections.

"
Inserting memory batteries
Memory batteries maintain the clock setting and preset stations for the tuner.
Notes:
!
If memory batteries are not inserted or low, preset stations and the clock setting
will be lost.
!
Replace memory batteries approximately once a year.
Caution:
Do not use rechargeable batteries (nickel-cadmium battery, etc.).
Precautions for battery use:
!
Insert the batteries according to the direction indicated in the rear panel.
!
Remove the batteries if weak or if the unit is not in use for long periods to prevent
potential damage due to battery leakage.
!
Replace all batteries with new ones at the same time.
!
Do not mix old and new batteries.
"
Using with the main batteries
Playing a disc consumes more battery power than listening to the radio. It is recom-
mended to use the AC power.
Battery replacement:
Replace the batteries when they become weak and playback is impaired. This may
occur even though radio broadcasts are audible.
"
Using with the AC power lead
After checking all the connections, connect the AC power lead to the AC power input
socket, then to the wall socket.
Before connecting the AC power lead, remove the cardboard from the AC power plug.
Notes:
!
Unplug the AC power lead from the wall socket if the unit will not be used for a pro-
longed period of time.
!
Connecting the AC power lead to the unit disconnects the batteries.
!
Use only the supplied AC power lead. Using other AC power leads may cause an
electric shock or fire.
1
Open the battery compartment.
2
Insert the 2 supplied "AA" size batteries (UM/SUM-3, R6, HP-7 or
similar) into the battery compartment.
