Preparation for Use
 
- Battery installation / Turning the power on -
 
Battery installation  
 
 
 
 
Precautions for battery use:
  
Replace all old batteries with new ones at the same time.
  
Do not mix old and new batteries.
  
Remove the batteries if the unit is not to be used for long periods of time. This will
prevent potential damage due to battery leakage.
 
Caution:
  
Do not use rechargeable batteries (nickel-cadmium battery, etc.).
  
Incorrect installation may cause the unit to malfunction.
 
Notes concerning use:
  
Replace the batteries if the operating distance is reduced or if the operation be-
comes erratic. Purchase 2 "AAA" size batteries (UM-4, R03, HP-16 or similar).
  
Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote control and the sensor on the unit
with a soft cloth.
  
Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may interfere with operation. Change
the lighting or the direction of the unit.
  
Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat, shock, and vibrations.
 
Turning the power on  
 
 
Test of the remote control
 
Check the remote control operation after making all the connections (see pages 10 -
16).
Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor on the unit.
 
The remote control can be used within the range shown below:
 
Press the ON/STAND-BY button. Does the power turn on? Now, you can enjoy your
system.
 
 
 
To turn the power on
 
Press the ON/STAND-BY button.
 
If the power does not turn on, check the AC power lead is plugged in properly.
 
To set the unit to the stand-by mode:
 
Press the ON/STAND-BY button again.
The power stand-by indicator lights up.
 
1 Open the battery cover.
2 Insert the supplied batteries according to the direction indicated in
the battery compartment.
 
 
When inserting or removing the batteries, push them towards the 
 battery
terminals.
 
3 Close the cover.

Turn on the TV, and switch the input to the "VIDEO 1", "VIDEO 2", etc. accord-
ingly.
 
Notes:
 
 
During playback, "PREFERENCES" settings cannot be changed.
  
Settings are stored even if the unit is set to the stand-by mode.
  
The backup function protects the stored settings for a few hours should there be a
power failure or the AC power lead disconnection.

Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the
power on.
  
The startup screen appears.
  
The startup screen does not appear when the
input is not set to the disc mode. Press the
FUNCTION button to select DVD mode.
  
If the startup screen is blurred, press the NTSC/
PAL button repeatedly to change the TV type.

Change the system with conventional TV connecting
  
If you use a conventional TV, you must select the INTERLACE (i) mode from remote control direct button "I/P SCAN".
  
INTERLACE mode is use for normal video output.
  
For conventional TV connection, please refer to page 12.
 
 
Change the system to a TV with Progressive-Scan
  
If you use TV with Progressive-Scan capability and connect it to the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT sockets of the DVD main unit (see page 14), you must select the PROGRES-
SIVE-SCAN (P-SCAN) mode from remote control direct button "I/P-SCAN".
 
Notes:
  
If you use a conventional TV and you select "P-SCAN" from remote control direct button "I/P-SCAN", the TV screen will become blur (not clear).
  
P-SCAN mode only can activate if video output setting change to YP

Caution:
 
Make sure the unit is on the STOP condition before changing the interlace or P-Scan (Progressive Scan) mode.
