SECTION 1 SERVICE INFORMATION
4. Notes on service
4. 1. Before service operation
4. 1. 1. LCD panel
1.  The display unit of this projector comprises three LCD panels. Although an LCD panel is a product of high-precision tech-
nology, some of the pixels on the image may be missing or constantly lit. Please note that this is not a failure.
2.  Displaying a still image for a longer time may result in an after-image on the LCD panels. If this happens, display the all
white screen in the test pattern for an hour or more.
4. 1. 2. Lamp
1. The light source of the projector is a high-pressure mercury lamp.
2. A high-pressure mercury lamp has the following characteristics.
  • The luminance of the lamp will decrease by duration of usage.
  •  The lamp may burst with a loud sound or have its service life shortened because of shock, chipping, or degradation due to
cumulative runtime.
  •  The lamp life varies greatly depending on individual differences and usage conditions. In particular, continuous use for 12
hours or more and frequent off/on switching of the power greatly deteriorate the lamp and affects the lamp life.
  • In rare cases, the lamps burst shortly after projection starts.
  •  The risk of bursting increases when the lamp is used beyond its replacement cycle. Make sure to replace the lamp unit
regularly.

(Refer to items “When to replace the lamp unit”, “How to replace the lamp unit”)
  • If the lamp bursts, gas contained inside of the lamp is released in the form of smoke.
  • It is recommended that you store the Replacement Lamp Unit as a contingency.

Note
*  Panasonic takes no responsibility for any damage or malfunction of the
product resulting from use of lamp units which are not manufactured by
Panasonic. Use only specified lamp units.
Attention
*   Please be sure to read the warnings and notices on the lamp that is
described in the Operating Instructions. "Read this first!", "Precautions for
use", "Maintenance/replacement"
4. 1. 3. Air filter unit
1.  Make sure that the air filter unit is properly attached before using the projector. If it is
not properly attached, the projector will suck in dirt and dust causing a malfunction.
2.  The cleaning and replacement cycle of the air filter unit varies depending on the us-
age environment.

SECTION 1 SERVICE INFORMATION
4. 2. Service
4. 2. 1. Supporting Methods
The basic service policy is shown below.
Repair contents
Applied parts
Block replacement
P.C.Board replacement

- Lighting block (* Specified components are replaced)

- Optical block

- [P]-P.C.Board (Specified components are replaced)

- [BQ]-P.C.Board

- Iris unit
Replaced by discrete components
Other electrical parts and mechanism parts
4. 2. 2. Repair
1.  Since very strong light is leakage from the surroundings of optical block, when checking or adjusting the projector with top
cabinet removal, wear the UV protection glasses to protect the UV light.
2. Before repairing, make sure to turn off the main power and disconnect the power plug from the power outlet.
  *  When replacing the print board, the internal electrical parts can be broken by the static electricity of clothes or human
body. Please take care in static electricity, use an antistatic wrist strap or wear the anti-static electricity gloves.
3. After repairing, please check the gradation (10step or the gray scale) test pattern or moving image.
Also, please check that it is normal on a self check screen.
4. 2. 3. Interlock detection
The lamp cover switch detects whether the lamp cover is mounted securely.
When the lamp cover is mounted securely, the interlock switch (K8S) on the [A]-P.C.Board turns on.
4. 2. 4. Replacement of A-P.C. board
1.  When the replacement of [A]-P.C.Board (assembly) is needed, back up the memory information such as adjustment data
from the old board to PC with the service software. Then transfer this data to the new [A]-P.C.Board.
For more information refer to the SECTION 3 "Adjustment".
  * Download the service software from Projector service web site.
   * The several types of adjustment data have been stored in the memory ICs listed below.
 Ref.
  Stored Data
IC1391
 User setting data, Service adjustment
data, Model No. Serial No.
IC801
 Gamma data, Color shading correction
data
2.  When [A]-P.C.Board is replaced, the MAC address of wired LAN will be changed. Explain it to the customers in advance.
