VERSION UPGRADE
Note:
Download the latest firmware and obtain the technical memo from
the GPS homepage.
About the firmware:
The firmware of DPP-FP50 (hereafter referred to as this unit) is
stored in IC101 (flash memory) on the BGA board.
The firmware can be written or upgraded using the memory stick
by adopting the flash memory as a program storage memory.
Writing of firmware:
Be sure to write the latest firmware after replacing the BGA board
or IC101 on the BGA board. Otherwise, the normal operation cannot
be performed.
Version Upgrade
Perform the version upgrade when the functional upgrade (firmware
version upgrade) is required.
[Procedure of firmware writing and version upgrade]
1. Download the latest firmware (hereafter referred to as firmware)
from the GPS homepage.
2. Copy the firmware (downloaded and uncompressed folder) to
the root directory of the memory stick.
3. Insert the memory stick into the memory stick slot of this unit.
4. Insert one power cord plug into the AC adapter (AC-S24V1)
supplied with this unit and insert the other power cord plug into
the receptacle.
5. Insert the DC plug of the supplied AC adapter into the DC-IN
terminal of this unit.
6. Press the [ON/STANDBY]  button while pressing the [MENU]
button.
7. Release the button when the access lamp (at the side of compact
flash card slot) starts flashing.
8. After several minutes, check that the access lamp changes to
stay lit.
(Completion of firmware or version upgrade)
9. Disconnect the power cord from the receptacle and remove the
memory stick from this unit.
10. Insert the power cord into the receptacle and connect the color
monitor with the VIDEO OUT terminal of this unit using the

replaced, replace the mechanical deck.
Trouble:
Paper is folded and stuck in the printer, and it cannot be
removed. (Paper jamming)
Cause:
• Abnormal mechanical deck assembly
• Abnormal print cartridge
Remedy:
• Remove the mechanical deck assembly from the lower
cabinet and remove the paper.
• When the mechanical deck assembly is abnormal,
replace the mechanical deck.
• Check the print cartridge. (Deformation, damage,
slack in ribbon, etc. of print cartridge)
2. Ribbon trouble
Trouble:
Ribbon is wrapped around the grid roller and pinch
roller, and cannot be removed. (Ribbon jamming)
Cause:
• Abnormal print cartridge
• Abnormal mechanical deck

Cause:
• Abnormal mechanical deck
• Abnormal ribbon cassette
Remedy:
• Replace the mechanical deck assembly.
• Check the assembling and damage status of ribbon
cassette.
Trouble:

• Replace the MAIN board.
• Replace the mechanical deck assembly.
Trouble:
Faint area appears on the printing side.
Cause:
Abnormal mechanical deck assembly
Remedy:
Replace the mechanical deck assembly.
Before checking the recurrence of abnormal state
When checking the abnormal state, be careful of the following.
• Only the specified print pack (ribbon and printing paper) can be
used in this unit.
Check the customer’s ribbon and printing paper.
The ribbon and printing paper can be used only once. In case that
the customer rewinds the ribbon or reuses the paper intentionally,
the trouble such as entangling of ribbon may occur.
• In case that the print pack is exposed to high temperature or high
humidity environment for long time after it is opened, the specified
performance may not be obtained.
Especially, the printing paper may be warped badly. In such case,
normal paper feeding and printing may not be performed. If
possible, check the condition of customer’s print pack.
• The abnormal printing may be caused by the digital camera,
memory card or PC that the customer uses. Therefore, if possible,
check the trouble with the equipment that the customer uses.
Trouble:
• Ribbon continues to rotate at the start of printing.
• Ribbon does not rotate at the start of printing.
Cause:
• Abnormal mechanical deck assembly
• Abnormal MAIN board
• Abnormal installation of paper tray and print cartridge
Remedy:
• Replace the MAIN board.
• If the trouble persists after the MAIN board is
replaced, replace the mechanical deck.
• Reinstall the paper tray and print cartridge.
Trouble:
• Paper is ejected without printing (white paper) and
“Print cartridge is not correct” is displayed.
Cause:
• Print cartridge assembly failure
• Abnormal mechanical deck assembly
• Abnormal MAIN board
Remedy:
• Replace the ribbon cassette.
• Replace the MAIN board.
• If the trouble persists after the MAIN board is
replaced, replace the mechanical deck.
3. Printing trouble
Trouble:
Abnormal print appears on the printing side of paper at
regular pitch intervals in the paper feed direction.
Note:
• Pitch interval 22 mm: Abnormal pinch roller
• Pitch interval 31.4 mm/15.7 mm:
Abnormal platen roller
• Pitch interval 9.4 mm: Abnormal grid roller
• Other cases:
Abnormal gear, etc.
Cause:
• Adhesion of foreign substances (such as dust and
grease)
• Defective molding of platen roller
• Flaw, damage
Remedy:
• When the dust adheres to the pinch roller, perform
the cleaning using the cleaning cartridge supplied with
this unit.
(If trouble persists after performing the cleaning once,
repeat the cleaning a few times.)
• Remove the mechanical deck assembly from the lower
cabinet and perform the cleaning of each roller.
(Remove the dust or other contamination using the
tools such as a cloth-wrapped stick in its end, sellotape
or gum tape.)
• Remove the mechanical deck assembly from the lower
cabinet and remove the foreign substances adhered to
the gear.
• If the trouble is caused by the flaw or damage of parts,
replace the mechanical deck assembly.
Trouble:
Streaks appear on the printing side of paper in the paper
feed direction.
Cause:
• Adhesion of foreign substances to thermal head
• Thermal head breakage
• Flaw or adhesion of foreign substance on the ribbon
cassette (contact area on the printing side)
• Flaw or burr on the paper of printing side
Remedy:
• Perform the cleaning using the cleaning cartridge
supplied with this unit.
• Remove the foreign substance from the ribbon
cassette, or replace it.
• If trouble persists after performing the cleaning,
replace the mechanical deck assembly.
