6-2. VIDEO SECTION ADJUSTMENT
2-1.
PREPARATIONS BEFORE ADJUSTMENTS
Use the following measuring instruments for video section
adjustments.
2-1-1.
Equipment to Required
1)
TV monitor
2)
Oscilloscope (dual-phenomenon, band width above 30 MHz
with delay mode) (Unless specified otherwise, use a 10:1
probe.)
3)
Frequency counter
4)
Pattern generator with video output terminal
5)
Audio generator
6)
Audio level meter
7)
Audio distortion meter
8)
Audio attenuator
9)
Adjustment remote commander (J-6082-053-B)
10) Extension cable (100P 0.5mm) (J-6082-352-A)
For extension between the MD-104 board (CN4901) and the
VC-354 board (CN1007)
11) CPC-8 jig (J-6082-388-A)

Precautions on Adjusting
Note1: Before performing the adjustments, check the data of page: 0,
address: 10 is “00”. If not, set data: 00 to this address.

The adjustments of this unit are performed in the PLAY mode
or MOVIE mode.
To set to the PLAY mode, set the mode dial to “PLAY/EDIT”
 ) or set the “Forced PLAY mode” using the adjusting
remote commander (Note2).
To set to the MOVIE mode, set the mode dial to “MOVIE” (
 ) or set the “Forced MOVIE mode” using the adjusting
remote commander (Note3).
After completing adjustments, be sure to exit the “Forced
MOVIE Mode” or “Forced Camera Power ON Mode”. (Note5)

The front panel block (Microphones, MA-429 board (A/V jack,
MIC jack, remote commander receiver, infrared LED)) need
not be connected except for the case that the S VIDEO jack is
used. To remove it, disconnect the following connector.
VC-354 board CN1006 (27P, 0.3mm)

 Cabinet (R) (CK-146 board, LCD block) need not be
connected. But removing the cabinet (R) (disconnecting the
VC-354 board CN1004) means removing the lithium 3V power
supply (CK-146 board BT5401), data such as date, time, user-
set menus will be lost. After completing adjustments, reset these
data.
But, the self-diagnosis data and the data on history of use (user
initial power on date, final condensation occurrence data) will
be kept even if the cabinet (R) has been removed. (Refer to “6-
3.Service Mode” for the data on the history use and the self-
diagnosis data.)
To remove the cabinet (R), disconnect the following connectors.
VC-354 board CN1004 (33P, 0.3mm)

The EVF block (LB-107 board) and the intelligent accessory
shoe need not be connected. To remove these, disconnect the
following connectors.
VC-354 board CN2201 (20P, 0.5mm)
VC-354 board CN1002 (10P, 0.5mm)

The lens block (CD-504 board, SE-155 board) need not be
connected. To remove it, disconnect the following connectors.
VC-354 board CN1601 (39P, 0.3mm)
VC-354 board CN1501 (29P, 0.3mm)
6)
To open the VC-354 board, use the following extension cable
between the VC-354 board CN1008 and MD-104 board
CN4901.
J-6082-352-A (100P, 0.5mm)
Note2: Setting the “Forced PLAY mode” (PLAY/EDIT mode)
1) Select page: 0, address: 01, and set data: 01.
2) Select page: D, address: 10, set data: 02, and press the PAUSE
button of the adjusting remote commander.
The above procedure will set up the “Forced PLAY mode” regardless
of the position of the mode dial. (Note6)
After completing adjustments, be sure to exit the “Forced PLAY
mode”.
Note3: Setting the “Forced MOVIE mode”
1) Select page: 0, address: 01, and set data: 01.
2) Select page: D, address: 10, set data: 01, and press the PAUSE
button of the adjusting remote commander.
The above procedure will set up the “Forced MOVIE mode”
regardless of the position of the mode dial. (Note6)
After completing adjustments, be sure to exit the “Forced MOVIE
mode”.
Note4: Setting the “Forced STILL mode”
1) Select page: 0, address: 01, and set data: 01.
2) Select page: D, address: 10, set data: 05, and press the PAUSE
button of the adjusting remote commander.
The above procedure will set up the “Forced STILL mode”
regardless of the position of the mode dial. (Note6)
After completing adjustments, be sure to exit the “Forced STILL
mode”.
Note5: Exiting the “Forced mode”
1) Select page: 0, address: 01, and set data: 01.
2) Select page: D, address: 10, set data: 00, and press the PAUSE
button of the adjusting remote commander.
3) Select page: 0, address: 01, and set data: 00.
Note6: Removing the PS8700 block (disconnecting the VC-354 board
CN1001) means removing the LID OPEN switch. So the DVD
drive unit will not move even if the “Forced PLAY/MOVIE/STILL
mode” is set up.

Adjusting Connectors
The checkpoints of the base unit are concentrated at CN4902 of
MD-104 board. When using an oscilloscope, connect it via the CPC-
8 jig (J-6082-388-A). The following table lists the pin numbers and
signal names of CN4902.

Connecting the Equipment
Connect the measuring instruments as shown in Fig. 6-2-2, and
perform the adjustments.
