SERVICE  MODE
About The Remote Commander Used In TheService  
Mode:
When the service mode is operated, the following, remote com-
mander is necessary.
(The service mode cannot be operated by remote commander to 
which this machine is attached)
Remote commander (RM-ASP004): Part No. 1-479-272-21
Note: Above-mentioned remote commander is one example. If it is the 
one printed under a remote commander as “DVD”, any remote com-
mander can be operated.
1.  Service Mode General Description
This mode let you make diagnosis and adjustment easily by using 
the remote commander and the TV screen for HDMI input. The 
instructions, diagnostic results, etc. are given on the TV screen. 
Be sure to execute “3. IOP measurement” when the optical pickup 
block is replaced.
Preparations:
•  TV monitor with HDMI input
•  HDMI cable
•  Remote commander for service mode (refer to “About The Re-
mote Commander Used In The Service Mode”)
Connection procedure:
Connect the TV monitor to the HDMI OUT jack (CN1701).

2.  Entering Service Mode
Procedure:
1.  Press the [
?/1
] button to turn the power on. 
2.  Press two buttons of [

] on the set simultaneously for 
3 seconds
3.  A “SERVICE IN” message appears on the fl uorescent indica-
tor tube and the following Remocon Diagnosis Menu appears 
on the TV monitor screen.

Release method:
Disconnect the power cord.
Note: To release from this mode, do not use the power button on the set to 
turn off the power but instead always unplug the power cord. Using 
the power button to turn off the power could disable the set.
3. IOP measurement (Drive Manual Operation)
You can measure the IOP value.Procedure:

1.  From the top menu of Remocon Diagnosis Menu, select “2 
Drive Manual Operation” by pressing the [2] button on the 
remote commander. The following screen appears on the on-
screen display

4. Emergency History
You can check the Error history. You can also initialize the setup 
data.
Procedure:
1.  From the top menu of Remocon Diagnosis Menu, select “3. 
Emergency History” by pressing the [3] button on the remote 
commander. The following screen appears on the on-screen 
display.

2. You can check the total playback time of the Super Audio CD 
and CD (

). The maximum time that can be displayed is 999h 
59min.
Note: “DVD 0h 0min” on the screen does not change and always indicates 
“0”.
3. You can check the 10 most recent error codes on the above 
screen (

). To view the previous or next “Emergency History”

There are three types of error codes: A, B, and C.

4. Use the conversion table etc. to convert the data displayed in 
step 3 above from hexadecimal to decimal.
5. If the value is less than or equal to 93 (decimal), it is OK. How-
ever, if the value is greater than 93, the optical pickup block is 
defective and needs to be replaced.
6. Press the [

 RETURN] button on the remote commander to 
return to the “Drive Manual Operation” menu.
7.  Press the [0] button on the remote commander to return to the 
top menu of Remocon Diagnosis Menu.

4-1. Clearing Laser Hours and Emergency History
Procedure:
Execute “INITIALIZATION OF THE EEPROM” (See page 12).
Note: You will not be able to clear only one of the items (either Laser 
Hours or Emergency History).
 
  When “Initialization of the EEPROM”is run, all content is cleared.

Procedure:
1.  Press the [MENU] button on the remote commander and then 
press the [CLEAR] button on the remote commander. The fol-
lowing screen appears on the on-screen display.
