CD SECTION
Note:
1. CD Block is basically designed to operate without adjustment.
Therefore, check each item in order given.
2. Use YEDS-18 disc (3-702-101-01) unless otherwise indicated.
3. Use an oscilloscope with more than 10M  impedance.
4. Clean the object lens by an applicator with neutral detergent when
the signal level is low than specified value with the following
checks.
5. Adjust the focus bias adjustment when optical block is replaced.
Focus Bias Adjustment

TP (VC)
oscilloscope
Procedure:
1. Connect oscilloscope to test point TP (RF). on CD board.
2. Turned SYSTEM POWER switch on.
3. Put disc (YEDS-18) in to playback the number two track.
4. Adjust RV101 so that the waveform is clear.
(Clear RF signal waveform means that the shape “ ” can be clearly
distinguished at the center of the waveform.)
5. After adjustment, check the RF signal level.
•  RF signal
   VOLT/DIV: 200 mV
   TIME/DIV: 500 nS
level: 1.2 ± 0.2 Vp-p
Procedure :
1. Load CDs into the each tray (seven pieces).
2. Connect oscilloscope to test point TP (FEO).
3. Connect between test point TP (FOK) and Ground by lead wire.
4. The focus search is performed by turning ON the SYSTEM
POWER.
It searches DISC 1-7 in order and stops.
5. Check the oscilloscope waveform (S-curve) is symmetrical be-
tween A and B. And confirm peak to peak level within 2.4 ± 0.7
Vp-p.

6. After check, remove the lead wire connected in step 3.
Note:
 • Try to measure several times to make sure than the ratio of
A : B or B : A is more than 10 : 7.
• Take sweep time as long as possible and light up the bright-
ness to obtain best waveform.
RF Level Check
Procedure :
1. Connect oscilloscope to test point TP (RF) on BD board.
2. Turned SYSTEM POWER switch on.
3. Put disc (YEDS-18) in to playback the number two track.
4. Confirm that oscilloscope waveform is clear and check RF signal
level is correct or not.
Note:
Clear RF signal waveform means that the shape “ ” can be
clearly distinguished at the center of the waveform.

E-F Balance Check
Procedure:
1. Set the DISC (YEDS-18) in chucking mode.
2. Connect the test point TP (ADJ) of CD board and the ground.
3. Connect oscilloscope to test point TP (TEO).
4. Press DOLBY NR button,
p button and DISC 1 button at the
same time in the STANDBY mode.
5. Playback the disc and press the DISC 4 button. (Tracking /sled

6. Confirm that the oscilloscope waveform is symmetrical on the
top and bottom in relation to 0Vdc, and check this level.

Focus/Tracking Gain Adjustment (RV102, RV103)
This gain has a margin, so even if it is slightly off.
There is no problem.
Therfore, do not perform this adjustment.
Please note that it should be fixed to mechanical center position when
you moved and do not know original position.

Method:
1. Without anything connected to the external input terminal, press
the SYSTEM POWER button and turn ON the power.
2. Adjust CT602 of the MAIN board so that the reading on the fre-
quency counter becomes 14.31818 MHz
±

Video signal
generator
Monitor
Method:
1. Connect the video signal generator to the VIDEO 1 IN jack and
output the cross hatch signal.
2. Turn ON the power, press the FUNCTION button, and set the
input source to VIDEO 1.
3. Taking the center of the monitor screen as center, and adjust CT601
of the MAIN board so that the distances A and B (to the edges of
the function frame) become equal.
4. If the OSD function frame screen disappears during the adjust-
ment, move the cursor of the remote commander provided. As a
result, the OSD screen will appear again.
The cross hatch signal is input with the video signal generator so that
the center of the screen can be identified easily. If there is no device
to output the cross hatch signal, other video signals such as the color
bar signal can be used if these enable the center to be identified eas-
ily.
If these signals are not available, adjust so that the distances C and D
(from the edge of the OSD function frame to edge of the monitor
screen) become equal.

Method 1:
1. Without anything connected to the external input terminal (con-
nection 1), press the SYSTEM POWER button and turn ON the
power.
2. Check that the OSD function frame screen is displayed on the
monitor. If no OSD function frame screen is displayed, move the
cursor button of the remote commander provided to display the
screen.
3. Observe the vectorscope, and adjust RV601 of the MAIN board
so that the light dots converge in the BLUE area.
4. Connect a dynamic picture video device to the external input ter-
minal (VIDEO 1 IN jack) of this unit (Connection 2).
5. Press the FUNCTION button and set the input source to
VIDEO 1.
6. Move the cursor of the remote commander provided, and display
the OSD function frame.
7. Observe the vectorscope. Check that the light dots in the BLUE
range and the light dots adjusted at 3 are coinciding.
8. If they do not coincide, disconnect the external video device, and
adjust RV601 of the MAIN board again.
9. If the light dots when an external video device is connected and
not connected coincide, it indicates the end of the adjustment.

the OSD function frame.
4. Take note of the blue and green screens at the bottom left of the
OSD function frame.
5. Disconnect the video device connected at 1.
6. Adjust RV601 of the MAIN board so that the blue and green parts
at the bottom left of the OSD function frame to the same color as
the images checked at 4.

Note)
Perform this adjustment when disconnecting the external video de-
vice. If the external video device is connected, there is no meaning in
performing this adjustment due to the use of the color burst of the
external device instead of the internal sync signal.
