1.  PREPARATION  OF  SERVICE  MODE
Prepare the following before checking service mode.

• Windows 

PC

•  USB cable for the WM-PORT (accessory)

•  Service mode install tool
 (ServiceModeInstaller-20120829B.zip)
•  Service mode uninstall tool
 (ServiceModeUninstaller-20120829B.zip)
• Newest 

fi rmware update tool

Note: Confi rm the method of obtaining each tool to each service head-

quarters.

Procedure:
1.  On PC, unzip the service mode install tool, and confi rm that 

the “ServiceModeInstaller-20120829B” folder has been cre-
ated.

2.  Connect PC and “WALKMAN” with the USB cable for the 

WM-PORT (accessory).

making sure the
connection is secure.

3. Confi rm that the USB connection screen is displayed on 

“WALKMAN”, then confi rm that “USB storage in use” is dis-
played.

Note 1: If the USB connection screen is not displayed, swipe the status bar 

on the top of the screen then tap “USB connected” on the notifi ca-
tion panel.

Before turning off USB storage, make sure

you have unmounted (”ejected”) your

Android’s USB storage from your computer.

4.  On PC, confi rm that “WALKMAN” drive has been recog-

nized.

 

(In this example, “WALKMAN” is recognized as F drive)

Note 2: When Windows XP is used, after recognizing a drive, the instal-

lation screen of a driver may be displayed. In that case, install a 
driver according to screen.

5.  On PC, open the “ServiceModeInstaller-20120829B” folder, 

and start “Digital Player Software Update tool” by double-
clicking “FWUpdater.exe”.

6.  On PC, check into the [I agree] box on “Digital Player Soft-

ware Update tool”, and click the [Next] button.

Note 3: The language displayed in “Digital Player Software Update tool” 

changes with linguistic environment of PC.

7. On PC, confi rm that all applications are terminated, and click 

the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update tool”.

8. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 

click the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.

You have selected an older version (Version=0.00) than the current version (Version=0.91) in the NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device. Do you still want to 
proceed with the update?

9.  On PC, wait for a while until progress will be 100%.

Note 4: “WALKMAN” is rebooted automatically.

The software of the NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device will be updated from
Version=0.91 to Version=0.00.

The software of the NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device will be updated from
Version=0.91 to Version=0.00.

10. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 

click the [Finish] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.

Note 5: The contents which have failed in updating may be displayed, 

but there is no problem.

The update tool failed to update the software of the

NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device to version 0.00. To try performing

the update again, click [Back]. To close this program, click [Finish].

11. Confi rm that the following screen is displayed on “WALK-

MAN”, and tap the [OK] button.

12. Tap “ ” (Apps) on “WALKMAN”, and the list of applications 

is displayed.

13. Confi rm that two icons (“DiagTestTool” and “ServiceMo-

deTool”) are displayed.

14. On PC, unmount the USB storage, and disconnect the USB 

cable for the WM-PORT (accessory) from PC and “WALK-
MAN”.

Note1: After work is completed, uninstall the service mode tool abso-

lutely.

Procedure:
1.  On PC, unzip the service mode uninstall tool, and confi rm that 

the “ServiceModeUninstaller-20120829B” folder has been 
created.

2.  Connect PC and “WALKMAN” with the USB cable for the 

WM-PORT (accessory).

3. Confi rm that the USB connection screen is displayed on 

“WALKMAN”, then confi rm that “USB storage in use” is dis-
played.

ware Update tool”, and click the [Next] button.

Note 4: The language displayed in “Digital Player Software Update tool” 

changes with linguistic environment of PC.

7. On PC, confi rm that all applications are terminated, and click 

the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update tool”.

8. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 

click the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.

click the [Finish] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.

Note 6: The contents which have failed in updating may be displayed, 

but there is no problem.

NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device to version 0.00. To try performing

the update again, click [Back]. To close this program, click [Finish].

11. Confi rm that the following screen is displayed on “WALK-

MAN”, and tap the [OK] button.

14. On PC, unzip the newest fi rmware update tool, and confi rm 

that the folder has been created.

15. On PC, open the folder created in step 14, and start “Digital 

Player Software Update tool” by double-clicking “FWUpdat-
er.exe”.

16. On PC, check into the [I agree] box on “Digital Player Soft-

ware Update tool”, and click the [Next] button.

Note 7: The language displayed in “Digital Player Software Update tool” 

changes with linguistic environment of PC.

17. On PC, confi rm that all applications are terminated, and click 

the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update tool”.

18. On PC, confi rm that the following screen is displayed, and 

click the [OK] button on “Digital Player Software Update 
tool”.

The software of the NWZ-F800Series (MSC) device will be updated from Version=0.91 to Version=1.01. Do you still want to proceed with the update?
(You cannot cancel it, Approx, 8minutes are required for the update.)
