flowchart (SIM67-24)
Start
Execute ADJ13A (Printer density and gradation adjustment)
(Automatic adjustment).
Enter the SIM67-24 mode, and select A4 (11" x 8.5")
paper.
Press [EXECUTE] key.
(The adjustment pattern is printed.)
Set the adjustment pattern on the document table.
Press [EXECUTE] key. (The adjustment pattern is
scanned, and the adjustment is automatically per-
formed to print the check pattern.)
Check the printed check pattern for any streaks or
unclear copy. (*3)
Press [OK] key. (The initial setting of the half tone
image correction is automatically performed.)
Cancel SIM67-24.
Check the self print check pattern to check the
printer density and gradation adjustment. (*1)
Use SIM64-5 to print the self print
check pattern, and check the printer
density and gradation.
Are the printer
density and gradation
at the satisfactory
level?
End
Execute ADJ13B (Printer density and gradation
adjustment) (Manual adjustment). (SIM67-25) (*2)
*1:
If the initial setting of the half tone image correction is not
properly adjusted, satisfactory printer density and gradation
cannot be obtained. In this case, check the print engine for
any problems.
*2:
If satisfactory printer density and gradation are not obtained
with ADJ13B (Printer density and gradation adjustment)
(Manual adjustment) (SIM67-25), check the print engine for
any problems.
*3:
If there is any streak or unclear copy on the printed check
pattern, check the print engine for any problems.
MX-B381/B401  ADJUSTMENTS  4 – 28
1)
Enter the SIM 67-24 mode.

selected.)
The patch image (adjustment pattern) is printed out.
3)
Set the patch image (adjustment pattern) paper printed in pro-
cedure 2) on the document table.
Set the printed patch image (adjustment pattern) on the docu-
ment table. Place the patch image so that the fine lines are on
the left side in the center reference. At that time, place 5
sheets of white paper on the printed patch image (adjustment
pattern).
4)
Press [EXECUTE] key.

Remark:
After pressing [OK] key, the initial setting of the half tone image
correction is started. During the operation, "NOW REGISTER-
ING THE NEW TARGET OF HALFTONE" is displayed. This
operation takes several minutes.
After completion of the operation, "PLEASE QUIT THIS
MODE" is displayed.
Do not cancel the simulation until "PLEASE QUIT THIS
MODE" is displayed.
6)
Check the printer density and gradation.
There are three methods to check the printer density and gra-
dation.
(Method 1)
Check to insure that the printed check patch image is within
the following specifications.
The print density must be changed gradually from the lighter
level to the darker level. The density changing direction must
not be reversed.
Patch C or D slightly copied.
Patch A must not be copied.

If a satisfactory result is not obtained with the above proce-
dure, perform the manual density and gradation adjustment
(ADJ 13B).

13-B
Printer density and gradation adjustment
(Manual adjustment)
This adjustment is needed in the following situations:
* When the copy density and gradation adjustment is required.
Basically same as when the copy density and gradation adjust-
ment is required.
* After the copy density and gradation adjustment.
a. General
The printer density and gradation adjustment (manual adjustment)
is executed when the above automatic adjustment cannot obtain
the specified range, when a fine adjustment is required, or when a
request for customization is made by the user.
If the adjustment state is improper, it is advisable to execute the
automatic adjustment in advance then execute this adjustment for
efficiency.

Start
Execute ADJ13B (Printer density and gradation adjustment
(Manual adjustment)). (*1)
Enter the SIM67-25 mode, and select A4R
(11 " x 8.5"R) paper.
Press [EXECUTE] key.
(The adjustment pattern is printed.)
Check the density and gradation of the
adjustment check pattern.
Select a target adjustment density level with the
scroll key.
Enter the adjustment value with 10-key.
Press [EXECUTE] key.
(The adjustment pattern is printed.)
Are the density
at the satisfactory
level?
Cancel the SIM67-25 mode.
Check the self print check pattern to check the printer
density adjustment result. (*2)
Use SIM64-5 to print the self print
check pattern, and check the printer
density.
Are the printer
density and gradation
at the satisfactory
level?
End
Check the density and gradation of the
adjustment check pattern.
*1:
If satisfactory density is not obtained with the
adjustment, check the print engine for any
problems.
MX-B381/B401  ADJUSTMENTS  4 – 30
1)
Enter the SIM 67-25 mode.
2)
Press [EXECUTE] key. (A4 or 11" x 8.5" paper is automatically
selected.)
The adjustment pattern is printed.
3)
Check that the following specification is satisfied or the density
and gradation is satisfactory.
If not, execute the following procedures.
The print density must be changed gradually from the lighter
level to the darker level. The density changing direction must
not be reversed.
Patch A or B slightly printed.
If, however, an adjustment is made by a request from the user,
there is no need to follow the above standard.
4)
Select the adjustment point to be adjusted with the scroll key.
5)
Enter the adjustment value with 10-key and press [OK] key.
The adjustment value is set in the range of 0 - 255 (1 - 99).
When SIM 67-24 is used to adjust the automatic density and
gradation, all the set values of this simulation are set to 50.
To increase the density, increase the adjustment value. To
decrease the density, decrease the adjustment value.
Repeat procedures of 2) - 5) until the condition of 3) is satis-
fied.
When the overall density is low, or when the density is high
and patch A is copied, use the arrow key to adjust all the
adjustment values of A - Q (MAX) to a same level collectively.
Then, adjust each patch density individually. This is an efficient
way of adjustment.
6)
Cancel SIM 67-25.
7)
Use SIM 64-5 to print the print test pattern and check the den-
sity and gradation.

13-C
Printer density and gradation adjustment
(low density part density and gradation
adjustment) (Normally unnecessary to
adjust)
This procedure is to adjust image density of low density area in
printer mode.
Adjust to reproduction (not reproduction) setting of the low density
image.
This adjustment is required in the following cases.
* When reproduction of low density image is required. When repro-
duction of low density image is not required, conversely.
* U2 trouble has occurred.
* When the MFP PWB is replaced.
* When the EEPROM on the MFP PWB is replaced.
* When there is request from the user.
1)
Enter the SIM 67-36 mode.
2)
Enter the adjustment value and press the [OK] key.
In case of increase of the image density on low density part,
increase the adjustment value. In case of increase of the
image density on low density part, increase the adjustment
value. For diluting the image density on low density part,
decrease the adjustment value.

13-D
Printer high density part density correction
setting (High density part tone gap
countermeasure) (Normally unnecessary to
the setting change)
This procedure is to adjust image density of low density area in
printer mode.
This setting normally not required. When, however, there are case
of following, change the setting.
* When a tone gap occurs on part of high density.
* When there is necessity to increase the density of the part of
high density.
* The carriage unit has been replaced.
* U2 trouble has occurred.
* When the MFP PWB is replaced.
* When the EEPROM on the MFP PWB is replaced.
