c. Details of operation
<1> Image transfer
A high positive voltage is applied to the transfer roller to positively
charge the transfer belt and the paper on it, attracting negatively
charged toner images on the OPC drum to the paper.
<2> Lifting
Since all the color toner images must be transferred in color printing,
all the OPC drums (Y/M/C/K) must be in close contact with the trans-
fer belt. Therefore, the transfer unit performs transfer operation in the
lift up position.
While in monochrome print, there is no need to transfer Y/M/C toner
images, and the Y/M/C OPC drums are separated from the transfer
belt. Therefore, the transfer unit performs transfer in the loft down po-
sition. Lifting is performed by the lift motor and the lift cam.
In the above operation, the transfer unit position is detected by the
transfer unit sensor.

<3> Transfer belt discharge
After completion of one cycle of transfer operation, the potential of the
transfer belt is reduced by the discharge electrode to make the next
cycle of transfer operation. (Initializing)
<4> Separation
The paper passed through the transfer section is separated from the
transfer belt mechanically. The separation pawl is driven by the sepa-
ration solenoid.
<5> Cleaning
The transfer belt is cleaned by the transfer belt cleaning blade.
<6> Others
The transfer belt is driven by the transfer motor.
The high voltage for transfer is generated by the high voltage PWB
(TC).
The transfer voltage is varied depending on the paper kind,
temperature and humidity to perform constant transfer operation.
The transfer unit is provided with the humidity sensor, and the
sensor detection result is reflected on the correction operation of
the image forming section.
When the lock lever of the transfer unit is released, the micro
switch is turned off to cut the power line to the transfer unit.
The image density sensor is used to detect the toner patch density
on the transfer belt during correction of the image forming section.
