Configuring the Till/s for Pre Installation (API drivers)
Allows PC Buzzer, 2 Line-Display, MCR, Internal Printer etc. done on the UP-5900.
1.  Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double click on “Add New Hardware”
2.  Click “Next”.
3.  Click “Next”.
4.  Select “No, I want to select the hardware from a list”.
5.  Scroll down to “Ports (COM & LPT)”.
6.  Click “Next”.
7.  Select “Have Disk”.
8.  Choose “Browse”.
9.  Select “Network”.
10.  Select the “Drive” Letter to be “G:” (Laptop CD-ROM Drive) or USB CDROM Drive
11.  Select the “Path” to be \\node200\G.
12.  Don’t select reconnect at logon.
13.  Click “OK”.
14.  The driver will be located on the install CD in E:\UP5900 API DRIVER\Win98 and is called
POSIO_98.VXD
15.  Click “Next”
16.  The Till will reboot.

1.3 Configuring the Till/s for TCP/IP for Windows 98
1.  Get a new UP-5900 out of the box
2.  Plug in the Power and boot up the till.
3.  Make sure Windows 98 SE starts.
4.  Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double click on “Network”.
5.  Hopefully you should already have a network card installed.
6.  Click “Add”, Protocol.
7.  Select “Microsoft” in the left-hand panel.
8.  Select “TCP/IP” at the bottom of the right-hand panel.
9.  Click “Ok”.
10.  Click on the tab across the top of the Network box called “Identification”.
11.  Change the Computer Name to be “Nodennn” where nnn is the POS Number 001 is
normally the Master
12.  Leave the Workgroup to be “Workgroup”.
13.  Now change the TCP/IP address, which is bound to the Network card to read.
14.  IP Address 
192.168.199.1 
(For the Till 1 “Node001”)
15.  Subnet Mask 
255.255.255.0
(For all Till/s)
Note: 
Till 2 IP Address will be 192.168.199.2 and Node002
Till 3 will be 192.168.199.3 and Node003 etc.
16.  Click OK
17.  Click the “File and Print Sharing” box
18.  Check the 2 check boxes and select OK
19.  Click Ok
20.  You may have to point at C:\WINDOWS\OPTION\CABS for extra Windows Files
21.  After the laptop reboots go into Start, Programs Windows Explorer.
22.  Right click on the C:  and go into properties (Local Hard Drive)
23.  Select sharing
24.  Allow FULL sharing as C and with NO password set.

1.4 Pinging a TCP/IP address
1.  Click Start, Programs, MS-Dos Prompt at the PC
2.  The machine will drop to a Dos box usually with c:\windows.
3.  Type C:\Windows> Ping 192.168.199.1 (1 = Node001) (Last digit 3 = Node003)
4.  Press Enter
5.  The IP address on the network will be “Pinged” and will return with a successful or
unsuccessful result.
6.  Once a successful ping has been established means that the network has been
successfully configured.

Loading Venta Software onto the UP-5900 with Windows 98
There are 2 way of loading the Venta Software from the CD supplied by Sharp (UK)
 
Via the network through the laptops CD ROM drive
 
Direct CD ROM drive attached via the USB port on the UP-5900 itself.
Note: This documentation will follow the USB route as the Network route is equally as easy.
1.  Connect the USB CD Drive.
2.  Load the driver which comes as standard with the CD Drive.
3.  Make sure the operating system will see the new USB CD Drive by going into Windows
Explorer and look for Drive E:
4.  Place the VENTA Install CD-ROM in the USB CD Drive.
5.  Go to the directory “VENTA APPLICATION”
6.  Double click on “SETUP2001.EXE”
7.  You will see the following screen.
8.  At this point you have the ability to install 3 scenarios.
 
Install with empty data files. – Loads Venta as a BLANK application to allow
programming.
 
Install with sample data files. – Loads Venta as a DEMONSTRATION application.
 
Install without data. – Loads Venta Application UPGRADES following future development,
this does not affect any data.
