4. INSTALLING PAPERS 
The register can print receipts and journals. For the printer, must install the paper rolls (receipt and journal paper rolls) provided with the 
register. 
⚠ 
CAUTION 
• Be sure to set a paper roll prior to using the machine, otherwise it may cause a malfunction. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  Receipt paper 
1)  Remove the printer cover. 
2)  Lift up the print roller arm of the receipt side. 
 
3)  Set a paper roll in the paper roll cradle of the receipt side as 
per the diagram. 
 
4)  Feed the end of the paper along with the paper positioning 
guides as per the diagram. 
5)  While holding down the paper, slowly close the print roller 
arm of the receipt side, and push down the arm until you 
hear a click locking the arm. 
 
6)  Cut off the excess paper. 
 
  Journal Paper 
1) 
Lift up the print roller arm of the journal side. 
2) 
Set a paper roll in the paper roll cradle of the journal side. 
3) 
While holding down the paper, slowly close the print roller 
arm of the journal side, and push down the arm until hear a 
click locking the arm. 
4) 
① Remove the paper holding plate from the spool. 
②  Insert the end of the paper into the slit in the spool. 
(Press the journal paper feed key to feed more paper if 
required.) 
③  Wind the paper two or three turns around the spool 
shaft. 
 
5) 
① Mount the paper holding plate onto the take-up spool. 
②  Set the spool on the bearing, and press the journal 
paper feed key to take up excess slack in the paper. 
 
6) 
Set the printer cover. 
7) 
Press the [RCPT FEED] key to make sure the paper end 
comes out of the printer cover and clean paper appears.

5. INITIALIZING THE CASH REGISTER AND BASIC PROGRAMMING 
5 - 1. Initializing the cash register 
For the cash register to operate properly, the register must be 
initialized it before programming for the first time. 
Follow this procedure. 
1)  Remove the register from its packing carton. 
2)  Push the [Journal feed] key and [↑] key simultaneously. 
And, insert the plug into the AC outlet at same time. 
5 - 2. Language selection   
1)  Display the “Language Selection” after turning on the 
power. 
2)  Press the numeric key for the number of language. 
After selecting the language, the register is initialized. 
According to the displayed instruction, perform the setting. 
 
5 - 3. Setting the date and time 
1)  Display the “DATE/TIME setting”. 
2)  Enter the date in 6 digits. For example, enter “060514” for 
May 6, 2014. 
3)  Press the [
↓] key to select the time setting. 
4)  Enter the time in 4 digits. For example, enter “1430” for 
2:30pm. 
5)  Press the [TL/NS] key to set the date and time. 
 
5 - 4. Setting the TAX rate 
1)  Select the tax number (1 to 6) to set the tax rate. 
2)  Enter the tax rate in 6 digits (leading zeros may be omitted). 
For example, press the [7] key to set 7%. 
3)  To set the second and later tax rates, press the [↓] key.

6. KEYBOARD SHEET  (ER-A421) 
 
  Inserting the keyboard sheet 
Insert the keyboard sheet between the keyboard cover and the 
cabinet as illustrated below. 
1)  Lift up the keyboard cover. 
2)  Insert the keyboard sheet into the slit. 
3)  Close the keyboard cover. 
 
 
 
 
NOTE: 
 
Do not spread the keyboard cover too far as it might tear. 
 
Replace the keyboard sheet with a new one if by case it 
gets wet. Use of a wet keyboard sheet may cause 
problems. 
 
Be sure to use only SHARP-supplied keyboard sheets. 
Thick or hard sheets make key operations difficult. 
 
Smooth the keyboard sheet evenly under the keyboard 
cover, without any folds or wrinkles, to ensure easier 
operation. 
 
The keyboard cover will eventually wear out. If keyboard 
cover is dirty or broken, replace the cover with a new one.

Master resetting clears the entire memory and resumes initial values. 
Initial values of language can be selected one from following 5 kinds. 
1. English 
2. Deutsch 
 
3. Francias 
4. Espanonl 
5. Svenska 
Master resetting can be accomplished by using the following “Master reset 1” or “Master reset 2”. 
■  Master reset 1 
1) 
Unplug the AC cord from the wall outlet. 
2) 
Push the [↑  JOUNAL] key and [1] key simultaneously and 
plug the AC cord to wall outlet. 
3) 
Input the Master Reset Password. 
Push the key on right upper corner  →  the key on left lower 
corner  →  The key on left upper corner  →  the key on right 
lower corner  (except feed key) 
4) 
Language selection menu is displayed. Push the 
corresponding number key. 
 
 
 
 
 
5) 
Set current date/time and push [TL/NS] key. 
 
 
 
 
 
6) 
Set tax rate and push [TL/NS] key. 
 
 
 
7)

  (This means that the key first pressed is programmed as 
the [0] key, the key pressed second as [1] key ---- and the 
last key pressed as the [TL] key.)   
To inhibit a particular key, press the [0] key at the point

3)  Plug in the AC cord to the wall outlet during the depression 
of above 2 keys. 
4)  MODE menu screen is displayed.
