CPU and Peripheral Circuits
Overview of the CPU
The CPU controls a 24-bits address bus and is used in making connection with other peripheral ICs and
interfaces through a 16-bits data bus.
IC15 differs from a typical CPU and has the following functions.
*Encode and Decode by Software.
*Operates as a 33600bps MODEM.
*Record and play back message as digital signal.
*Equipped with parallel interfaces compatible with 16550.
*Equipped with the synchronization or the asynchronous serial interface.
*Equipped with the automatic speed recognition serial interface.
*Equipped with two 16-bits serial interface for interfacing with AFE.
The CPU (IC15) controls the devices listed below.
*System ASIC
IC3
: Equipped with centronics I/F, printer I/F, serial I/F, motor con-
troller and the programmable I/O ports.
*FRIP4-1
IC16
: This IC controls scanning.
*Memory
: Refer to following table.
*RTC (Real Time Clock)
IC11
: Generates the clock/calendar data and these are backed up
by Backup Capacitor (C37)

2.1.2.
Memory
Details of Memory usage for each model are as listed below.
You can check IC6 by TEST MODE 9 (Memory Test).
Caution!
After above test, compensation data for CIS is cleared.
Please refer to Test Mode 15 (CIS Training) in Service Manual.
2.1.3.
Reset Circuit
This +3.3V system voltage is monitored by IC8 (the reset IC), and nRESET becomes high level when the
voltage of pin1 exceeds +2.5V.
Plugging the Power Cord or the +3.3V system voltage drops and reaches the 2.5V point, the hardware
reset (nRESO) operates and the function of the microprocessors are stopped.
2.1.4.
System Clock Circuit
2.1.5.
Buzzer Sound Generation Circuit
The buzzer sound is produced by IC11 (Cross Point Mixer). IC11 is driven the BZCK signal and
modulation is applied while this signal is switched on and off to create the buzzer sound.
