U.2.1
Replacement:
Electric strength
The test sample is prepared according to IEC 60851-
5:1997, 4.4.1 (for a twisted pair). The sample is then
subjected to the test of 5.2.2 of this standard, with a
test voltage not less than twice the appropriate voltage
in table 5B (see 5.2.2) of this standard. However, the
minimum values shall be as follows:
- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 3000 V, or;
- for REINFORCED INSULATION, 6000 V.

U.2.2
Replacement:
Flexibility and adherence
Test 8 of IEC 60851-3:1996, 5.1.1, using the mandrel
diameters of table U.1. The test sample is then
examined in accordance with IEC 60851-3:1996,
5.1.1.4, followed by the test of 5.2.2 of this standard
except applying the test voltage between the wire and
the mandrel. A test voltage shall not be less than twice
the appropriate voltage in table 5B (see 5.2.2) of this
standard. However, the minimum values shall be as
follows:
- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 1500 V, or;
- for REINFORCED INSULATION, 3000 V.
NOTE: “twice” in the 6

Replacement:
Mandrel diameter

The tension to be applied to the wire during winding on
the mandrel is calculated from the wire diameter to be
equivalent to 118 Mpa ± 10 % (118 N/mm2 ± 10 %).

U.2.3
Replacement:

Replace the first paragraph with the following.
Test 9 of IEC 60851-6:1996, followed by the electric
strength test of 5.2.2 of this standard except applying
the test voltage between the wire and the mandrel. A
test voltage shall be the appropriate voltage in table 5B
(see 5.2.2) of this standard.
However, the minimum values shall be as follows:

- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 1500 V, or;

for REINFORCED INSULATION 3000 V

U.2.4
Replacement:

Replace the third paragraph describing the test voltage
with the following.
The test voltage shall not be less than the appropriate
voltage in table 5B (see 5.2.2) of this standard.
However, the minimum values shall be as follows:

- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 1500 V, or;

- for REINFORCED INSULATION, 3000 V.
It is applied between the shot and the conductor.

U.3.1
Replacement:

Replace with the following.
The test voltage for ROUTINE TESTING shall be the
appropriate voltage in table 5B (see 5.2.2) of this
standard. Howeve, the minimum values shall be as
follows:

- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 1500 V r.m.s. or 2100 V peak, or;

- for REINFORCED INSULATION, 3000 V r.m.s. or
4200 V peak.

U.3.2
Replacement:

Replace with the following.
Twisted pair samples shall be tested in accordance
with IEC 60851-5:1996, 4.4.1. The minimum
breakdown voltage shall not be less than twice the
appropriate voltage in table 5B (see 5.2.2) of this
standard. However, the minimum values shallbe as
follows:

- for BASIC INSULATION or SUPPLEMENTARY
INSULATION, 3000 V r.m.s. or 4200 V peak, or;

- for REINFORCED INSULATION, 6000 V r.m.s. or
