2-3. Storing Moving Images
Microphone Input
The MIC input works only in the “Moving Image” mode and “Voice Memo”
mode.
[During the “Voice Memo” mode]
During the “Moving Image” mode, a still image is read from the CCD
imager in the same manner as in the capture mode.  The input voice from
the microphone is A/D converted (IC701) for about 5 seconds, its data is
converted by the audio I/F (IC501), and compressed by the CAM/MEDIUM
Controller.  The voice signal is then mixed with image data at the SDRAM
(IC455).
[In the “Moving Image” mode]
The input voice from the microphone is amplified by the microphone am-
plifier (IC101) and enters the LINE/SPEAKER amplifier (IC702) where
the voice data is input/output processed and enters the AUDIO AD/DA
CONV (IC701) where the voice data is A/D converted.  The digital voice
data enters the AUDIO I/F (IC501) where it is converted from serial data to
parallel data, and enters the CAM/MEDIUM Controller where it is com-
pressed to about 1/16.  The voice data is then mixed with the image at the
SDRAM (IC455).
CCD IMAGER (IC102)
The CCD imager signal is sampled to a quarter of the total amount of infor-
mation and is output in the same manner as in the camera-through mode.
S/H, AGC, A/D CONV (IC152)
The same signal processing as in the camera-through mode is performed
and the image data is sent to the CAMERA DSP (IC251).
CAMERA DSP (IC251)
The image data signal is processed to create digital data in the form of Y,
CR and CB.  The image data for LCD display is written into the SDRAM
(IC455) and undergoes the same processing as in the camera-through mode.
The image data to be saved in the memory stick is the Y, CR and CB data
which were previously written into the SDRAM (IC455), and the data are
sent to the CAMERA DSP (IC251) where it undergoes data compression.
SDRAM (IC455)
The compressed Y, CR and CB data and the digitally processed audio sig-
nal are mixed at AUDIO I/F (IC501) and written into the SDRAM (IC455)
as controlled by the CAM/MEDIUM Controller .
MEMORY STICK I/F (IC451)
The digital output data from the SDRAM (IC455) is converted from paral-
lel data to serial data and stored in the memory stick.

3. FLOW CHART
3-1. Camera Mode Flow Chart
The camera mode flow chart is shown in Fig. 3-1.  Operation in the camera
mode is described in the following order.
3-1-1. Checking the Memory Stick
When the main power is turned on, the HI Controller immediately reads
out the status of the memory stick (memory stick is abbreviated as MS
hereafter.)
• Checking if MS is used or not ............................. NO MEMORY STICK
• Checking the protection status of MS ...... MEMORY STICK LOCKED
When an MS is found to be write-protected from the result of MS check,
the respective alarms are displayed on LCD screen as the error messages.
3-1-2. Reading the Contents of Memory Stick
When an MS is found to be ready to write and read data, the DIR data and
the FAT data are read, the DOS/V format is checked and wait for camera
shooting.  If any data error is found, the message “FORMAT ERROR”
appears.
3-1-3. Processing and Storing the Picture Data
When the HI Controller receives the output signal from the SHUTTER (or
RELEASE) button, the camera signal is memorized in the SDRAM (IC252).
In the SDRAM (IC252), the memorized camera picture signal is compressed
of its data amount to about 1/5 of the original data by the JPEG compres-
sion system, and is memorized in the other SDRAM (IC455).  The com-
pressed data in conformity with the JPEG compression standard is finally
stored (written) in an MS.
The JPEG compression is described in the separate section of this docu-
ment.
The filename, JPEG file, DIR data and FAT data are saved when writing
data into an MS.
