1. HOW TO ENTER THE TEST MODE
Insert a CD into ZS-D7.  Remove the power cord.
While the power cord is removed, and while pressing the
ENTER key and the CD STOP key, connect the power cord to
wall outlet.  The ZS-D7 enters the test mode.
The default display appears as shown.
Press the PLAY key to start rotating CD and press the PLAY
key again to hear the CD music.
When you want to enter the automatic adjustment mode, press
the ENTER key.  The display values change in the automatic
adjustment mode, but have no actual effects on operation.
Turn off the main power to exit the test mode.
2. RF Level and Jitter Check
After completing the step 1 automatic adjustment, enter the test
mode then the PLAY state.
Measurement Point
MAIN board : TP1 (MAIN board C-12.  See page 26.)
(Confirm by oscilloscope)
Confirm that jitter is 9.0 ns or less.  Confirm also that the RF
level is from 0.9 to 1.3 Vp-p.
3. Traverse Signal Check
* Measurement Point: TP2 (MAIN board C-12.  See page 26.)
(Confirm by oscilloscope)
From the condition of above step 2, press the FF or FR key.
Check that the traverse level is from 300 mVp-p to 500 mVp-p
.
PRECAUTION
1.
Clean the following parts with a denatured-alchool-moistened
swab:
record/playback head
pinch roller
erase head
rubber belts
capstans
2.
Demagnetize the record/playback head with a head
demagnetizer. (Do not bring the head demagnetizer close to
the erase head.)
3.
Do not use a magnetized screwdriver for the adjustments.
4.
After the adjustments, apply suitable locking compound to the
parts adjusted.

TAPE RECODER SECTION
PRECAUTION
1.  Adjustments should be performed in the test mode.
2.  Demagnetize the record/playback head with a head
demagnetizer.
3. Do not use a magnetized screwdriver for the adjustment.
4. Lock the adjustment parts/components with locking agent such
as Neji-lock after adjustments are completed.
5. Perform adjustments under the specified voltage unless
otherwise specified.
6. Perform adjustments in the order given.  (Perform the playback
circuit first then adjust the recording circuit, in principle.)
7. Adjustments should be performed for both L-channel and R-
channel.

Tape Speed Adjustment
Procedure:
Mode :
 FWD playback
1.
Press the TAPE ”  Key to enter the playback mode.
2.
Adjust the variable resistor of the motor (M691) so that the
frequency counter reading is from 2,985 to 3,015 Hz.
3.
Confirm that the tape speed difference between the tape top
and end is within 1.5 %.
Record/Playback Head Azimuth Adjustment
Note:
• Perform adjustment after head has changed the tape
running direction. (When head is in the FWD direction
position, start adjustment in the REV mode.
• Adjustment must be completed by cw turning of
adjustment screw.
• After the adjustment, lock the screws with locking
compound.
Procedure:
1.
Mode : REV playback
2.
Turn the adjustment screw for the maximum output levels. If
these levels at L-ch and R-ch do not match, turn the adjustment
screw until both of output levels match together within 1 dB.
— 20 —
3.
Phase Check
Mode : REV playback
4.
Perform the above steps 1 through 3.
5.
Confirm that the phase difference between L-ch and R-ch is in
the range from 0˚ to 90˚.
