* Recording on both decks A and B possible

With MDS-W1, simultaneous recording from separate sources to both decks A and B is possible. “MDS-W1

simultaneous recording” refers to simultaneous recording from separate sound sources.

Owing to copy right restrictions, recording one source onto two MDs simultaneously is impossible basically.

Continuing the recording of one source onto a second MD is possible. When the MD in deck A is full, recording

can be continued on deck B (relay recording).

For relay-recording music programs from the radio, recording on deck B can started 10 minutes before recording

on deck A concludes (overlap recording) so that one piece of music is not divided over two MDs.

Reference: How MDW-W1 differs from a portable MD recorder

With SONY’s portable MD recorder, when recording is started immediately after a disc has been inserted, it will

start from the beginning of the disc. In this case, the disc’s previously recorded content will be recorded over.

With MDS-W1, when recording is started immediately after a disc has been inserted, an empty area of the disc

will be automatically located and recorded on. Changing the recording start position using AMS or similar
operations makes it also possible to record over the disc’s previously recorded content.

MD dubbing is possible from either deck, A or B. However, it is necessary to set the recording mode (digital or

analog).

Automatic dubbing done using the MD SYNC button can only be done from deck A to deck B.

Advantages of automatic dubbing follow.

* Automatic setting of recording mode

The appropriate recording mode that corresponds to how the master disc was recorded will be automatically set

using SCMS format.

Because digital copying is prohibited when the master disc is an MD that was digitally recorded from a CD

analog recording will be automatically set.

When the master disc is an MD that was dubbed from a cassette tape, digital recording will be automatically set,

because it is possible for one generation only.
