Procedure:
1. Load the check disc (MDW-74/GA-1).

Note 1:
The relation between the C error and focus bias is as shown in
the following figure. Find points A and B in the following figure
using the above adjustment. The focal point position C is auto-
matically calculated from points A and B.
Note 2:
As the C error rate changes, perform the adjustment using the
average vale.

Procedure:

Procedure:
1. Load the continuously-recorded disc.  (Refer to “5.  USING
THE CONTINUOUSLY RECORDED DISC” (See page 36))

3. Press the  ENTER/YES “R”

15. Focus Bias Check
Change the focus bias and check the focus tolerance amount.
Procedure:
1. Load the continuously-recorded disc.  (Refer to “5.  USING
THE CONTINUOUSLY RECORDED DISC” (See page 36))
2. Press the  MD

Note:
If the C error and ADER are above other than the specified value
at points a (step 8. in the above) or b (step 7. in the above), the
focus bias adjustment may not have been carried out properly.
Adjust perform the beginning again.
16. Auto  Gain  Control  Output  Level Adjustment
Be sure to perform this adjustment when the optical pick-up is
replaced.
If the adjustment results becomes “Adjust NG!”, the optical pick-
up may be faulty or the servo system circuits may be abnormal.
16-1. CD Auto Gain Control Output Level Adjustment
Procedure:
1. Load the check disc (TDYS-1).
2. Press the  MD

“R”  or  MD

“R”  button to display “AG
Set (CD)” (C11).
3. When the  ENTER/YES “R”
  
button is pressed, the adjustment
will be performed automatically.
“Complete!” will then be displayed momentarily when the value
is recorded in the non-volatile memory, after which the display
changes to “AG Set (CD)” (C11).
4. Press the  Z MD  button and take out the check disc.
16-2. MO Auto Gain Control Output Level Adjustment
Procedure:
1. Load the test disc (MDW-74/GA-1).
2. Press the  MD 
“R”  or  MD 
>
 
“R”  button to display
“AG Set (MO)” (C10).
3. When the  ENTER/YES “R”
  
button is pressed, the adjustment
will be performed automatically.
“Complete!” will then be displayed momentarily when the value
is recorded in the non-volatile memory, after which the display
changes to “AG Set (MO)” (C10).
4. Press the  Z MD  button and take out the test disc.

Syscon Diagnosis
The same contents as board detail check by serial interface can be
checked from the remote commander.
On the Test Mode Menu screen, press the  0 “R”  key on the remote
commander, and the following Check Menu will be displayed.

Quit the Syscon Diagnosis and return to the Test Mode Menu.
1. All
This menu checks all diagnostic items continuously. Normally, all
items are checked successively one after another automatically
unless an error is found, but at a certain item that requires judgment
through a visual check to the result, the following screen is displayed
for the key entry.

For the ROM Check, the check sum calculated by the syscon is
output, and therefore you must compare it with the specified value
for confirmation. Following the message, press the  DVD > “R”
key to go to the next item, or the  DVD . “R”  key to repeat the
same check again. To quit the Syscon Diagnosis and return to the
Check Menu screen, press the  DVD x “R”  or the  ENTER “R”
keyon the remote commander. If an error occurred, the diagnosis is
suspended and the error code is displayed as shown below.

[DVD Service Mode]
• This mode allows you to make diagnosis and adjustment easily
using the remote commander and monitor TV. The instructions,
diagnostic results, etc. are given on the on-screen display (OSD).
Entering the DVD Service Mode
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1  key or the  ?/1 “R”  button to turn the power ON.
2. Press the  FUNCTION  key to select “DVD”.
3. Press three keys  x    ,    ENTER/START  , and  VOLUME +
simultaneously.
4. Test mode start and display the menu shown below on the TV
screen. (At the bottom of the menu screen, the model name and
revision number are displayed)
5. To execute each function, select the desired menu and press its
number on the remote commander. To release from this mode,
press the  ?/1  key.

Note 1:
About “R”
As this unit has only a few buttons, some operations require
the use of remote commander (RM-SM700E/provided with
unit)  buttons. These operations are indicated as  “R”  in this
manual.
Example:  MENU/NO “R”  ...Press the  MENU/NO  button
of the remote commander.
Note 2:
Incorrect operations may be performed if the test mode is not
entered properly.
In this case, press the  
?/1
  button to turn the power off, and
retry to enter the test mode.
[Disc Tray  Lock]
Procedure:
1. Press the  ?/1    button or the  ?/1  “R”  button of remote
commander to turn on the power.
2. Press the  FUNCTION  button to enter the “DVD” mode.
3. Press the  ENTER/START  button and the  DVD Z  button at
the same time for 5 seconds or longer.
4. The message “LOCKED” appears and the tray is locked. (The
tray is kept lock even after exiting this mode.)
5. Press  ENTER/START  button and the  DVD Z  button again at
the same time for 5 seconds or longer.
6. The message “UNLOCKED” appears and the tray lock is
released.
