Currently, Netflix has more than 48 milions subscriptions in more than 40 countries (25% outside the US) who
view over 1 billion hours of TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix each month.
Contents for each country are differents based on: Location, Popularity and Puchase Rights.
The continued European expansion follows the launch of Netflix in the UK and Ireland, Denmark, Finland,
Norway, Sweden (2012) and the Netherlands (2013).
Netflix plans to significantly expand in Europe later this year at following countries: Germany, Austria,
Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Netflix in France wants to compite against Canal Play which has more than 300K subscriptions. (Rules in
France could make it difficult for Netflix to survive there, however: taxes are high, movies are prohibited from
such streaming services for three years after they hit theaters, and the company would be required to help pay
for French video content.)

owned by Sky Deutschland.

It works by breaking the overall stream into a sequence of small HTTP-based file downloads,
each download loading one short chunk of an overall potentially unbounded transport stream. As
the stream is played, the client may select from a number of different alternate streams
containing the same material encoded at a variety of data rates, allowing the streaming session
to adapt to the available data rate. At the start of the streaming session, it downloads an
extended playlist containing the metadata for the various sub-streams which are available.
