Horizontal Stage Problems with the GA10 Chassis
Dry joints normally instigate faults in the horizontal stage on one or several of the tuning/correction capacitors or failure
of Q601 and Q602. Ensure that C601. C602, C619 and C624 are not dry jointed or faulty in any way. Due to the
nature of faults in the horizontal stage, the NVM can become corrupted, so it is recommended that if further problems
are experienced after finding faults in this stage, that the NVM is reprogrammed.
Intermittent Operation
Unit intermittently will not start up from standby, shuts down or the line collapses. Q606 failing intermittent, it may read
perfectly alright on a component test. This transistor is part of the protection feedback circuit.
This problem can also be traced to the incorrect type of device fitted to position Q601. We have had several reports of
this problem from Service companies who have purchased the above Transistor from various independent (non-Sharp)
Spares suppliers.
Intermittent line collapse or turning off
This problem can be caused by one of the HT feedback resistors (R742, R743, R744 and R745) on the secondary of
the power supply. Usually it is R743 that fails and it is best to check this component by substitution as the fault may not
respond to flexing the PWB.
Dead
Q601 and/or Q602 short circuit. due to excessive heat build up. It is recommended to change Q602 to a 2SK2843 and
replace the heatsink fitted to Q601 and Q602 to a larger size in order to reduce their operating temperature. The
original heatsink is 65mm in height, the new one is 110mm in height. If the heatsink has already been changed for the
larger type, it is not necessary to change it again.
