detector (FBPPD), the buffer roller stops and waits for the third sheet.

8) When the leading edge of the third sheet reaches the Finisher paper enter detector (FPED), the
Finisher Buffer Solenoid 2 (FBS2) turns off so that the path is directed in the direction of
delivery. (The actual switch-over will occur after the trailing edge of the first sheet has moved
past the flapper.)

K. Detecting Jams
The following sensors are used to detect the presence/absence of paper and to make sure that
sheets are moved properly:
Finisher paper enter detector (FPED)
Finisher paper pass detector (FPPD)
Finisher Paper Alignment Tray Paper Detector (FATPD)
Finisher Buffer paper pass detector (FBPPD)
A jam is identified with reference to the presence/absence of paper at each specific sensor at the
times programmed in the memory of the microprocessor (CPU) on the finisher controller PCB.
When the CPU identifies a jam, it suspends the finisher’s delivery operation and informs the
host machine DC controller of the presence of a jam. After the paper jam is removed, the Finisher
Buffer paper enter detector (FBPED) checks whether or not copies are being detected in addition to
the above four sensors (Finisher paper enter detector, Finisher paper pass detector, Finisher Paper
Alignment Tray Paper Detector and Finisher Buffer paper pass detector). If the sensors detect a
copy when all doors are closed, the finisher unit judges that paper jams have not completely been
removed, and sends the paper jam removal signal to the host machine again.
The Finisher Paper Delivery Upper Tray Paper Detector (FDTPD1) and the Finisher Paper
Delivery Lower Tray Paper Detector (FDTPD2) are not used to detect jams.
