1-1. Cautions on HDD Replacement
The data shown in “1-2.Data Stored in HDD” are stored in the HDD of the
copier/printer machine. If the HDD subject to replacement operates normally, the
data in the HDD can be backed up, so back up the data by following the
procedure “1-3.Procedure for Replacing the HDD”, and then replace the HDD.
If the HDD does not operate normally, the data in the HDD cannot be backed up.

*1: You cannot back up "e-instruction manual", but you can reinstall it.
(Execute Sim49-3 to reinstall "e-instruction manual" from USB memory on the HDD.)
1-3.Procedure for Replacing the HDD
a) The following describes the procedure for replacing the old HDD when the data stored
in the HDD cannot be backed up.
When using the blank HDD (service part)
When using the used HDD (used by the same

Release this
code by using Sim16.
(3) The blank HDD need not be formatted by using Sim
because it is automatically formatted.
(3) Initialize the data stored in the HDD by using
Sim62-1.
Initialize the instruction manual storage area by
using Sim62-13.
(4) Execute Sim66-10 to clear FAX image memory.
Clear FAX image memory to coordinate HDD data with image-related memory, thereby preventing a malfunction.
(Besides the FAX model, models that use a scanner and IFAX also need memory clear.)
(Besides the FAX model, models that use a scanner and IFAX also need memory clear.)
(5) Reinstall e-instruction manual data.
Install instruction manual data on the HDD by using Sim49-3. (Use USB memory. The details are given later.)
This is the end of HDD replacement. At this point, the HDD status is the same as the
factory
default setting.
* When the used HDD is replaced, the HDD used by other models is automatically
formatted after the copier/printer machine is started.
However, the HDD used by MX-M850/M950/M1100 Series is not automatically formatted.

2. Procedure for Reinstalling (Updating) Instruction Manual Data Stored in HDD
[Procedure]
Download instruction manual data by using the Web site (Tech-DS homepage)
utility.
Upload the downloaded data to the copier/printer machine by using the USB
memory device. (For details, see Sim49-3.)
At this time, copy data to the USB memory device as is without changing the
hierarchy of the downloaded files.
(Besides instruction manual data (**.pdf), uploading to the copier/printer requires
xxx_pdf_fax.idx, xxx_pdf.idx, and version.txt.)

If data already exists in the HDD when data is uploaded from USB memory to the
HDD, the files in USB memory are compared with the files in the HDD and only the
files meeting the following conditions are written to the HDD:
- The file sizes differ.
- The timestamps differ.
- Files exist only on USB memory.
- This operation updates and adds files to the HDD but does not delete them. For
this reason, if the contents of the files in the HDD are unknown, format the
instruction manual area (Sim62-13) before updating instruction manual data.
