1. Introduction
This document describes the operational procedure of Ad-hoc Mode on a Sharp digital MFP in a wireless LAN.
This document deals with Sharp digital MFP models that are equipped with either of the following two types of
operation panels. Unless otherwise noted, the operations illustrated in this document apply to both types of
MFPs.

2. Overview
2.1. Modes in Wireless LAN
Two connection methods are available for the wireless LAN: Infrastructure Mode and Ad-hoc Mode. In
Infrastructure Mode, two client devices communicate with each other via an access point. In Ad-hoc Mode, two
client devices communicate with each other directly without using an access point; a mobile device and an MFP
communicate with each other directly to print to and scan from the MFP.

This mode allows for wireless communication between two client devices via a host (access point). Here, an
MFP connects to an access point to obtain an IP address.

Ad-hoc Mode
The direct wireless communication allows a mobile device that cannot
connect to an intranet to print to and scan from an MFP.
