AR-PE2 System Software Installation Procedure

This bulletin explains how to install or re-install the system software for the AR-PE2

A PC running either Windows 95, 98 or ME operating system(s).

Note: The PC will need to be configured so that the parallel port in the BIOS is set
to ECP. If ECP is not supported, the system software installation will be

Reminders:
Installing the system software erases all data on the HDD. Check the following items

Configuration: Print a current set-up configuration page as all set-up parameters will
be deleted.

All fonts that the customer has installed on the AR-PE2 are deleted.

Compatibility: The latest user software must be installed onto ALL computers that
print to the AR-PE2. Using incompatible versions of the system and

Procedure:
1. Install the Postscript driver for the Fiery AR-PE2 from the User CD.
This driver supports IEEE1284 fast bi-directional throughput over an ECP parallel
port and allows you to configure all port and spool settings required for a
successful installation.

2. Click the Icon for the printer and choose Properties from the File menu.
3. Click the details tab and confirm the “Print to the following port” reads
LPT 1: (ECP Printer Port) as shown below:
4. Click Spool settings and select “Spool print jobs so program finishes
printing faster” and “Start printing after first page is spooled”. Also select
“Disable bi-directional support for this printer” if it is not greyed out.

Note: Disabling Windows support for the bi-directional parallel port helps the
system software installation to be successful.

5. Click Port Settings and ensure that “Spool MS-DOS print jobs” and “Check
port state before printing” are selected as shown below.
6. Click Apply and OK to activate the settings and exit from the Printer
properties screen.
7. Shut down the Fiery AR-PE2 and power off the copier.
8. Connect an IEEE 1284 centronics cable to the LPT1 port on your PC and to
the parallel port on the Fiery AR-PE2.
9. Insert the CD containing the system software files into the CD Rom Drive.
The files can be downloaded by either copying the files onto the PC’s Hard Disk
drive or directly from the CD drive where Hard Disk space is limited.

10. Using the Windows “Start” menu, open a MS-Dos window by selecting
“Programs” and “MS-Dos” prompt.
Note:
Do NOT use the option “Shut Down and Restart Windows in DOS mode”.
11. At the MS Dos prompt, navigate to the Directory to where the files are
located (CD Rom or HDD).
Two files are required for installing the system software:-
Part 1 (Boot)
Part 2 (Main Program)
12. Type the following Command at the MS Dos prompt but DO NOT
press the enter key at this stage.

13. Power on the copier and within 3 seconds (just after the transport belt
advances), press the enter (return) key on the PC.

14. When the copier indicates a “Ready to Copy” status, enter the Fiery menu
by executing the PRINT key, taking the copier OFFLINE and pressing the
FIERY Logo in the upper right corner of the copier LCD screen.

15. Wait for the following menu to appear:-
16. Type the following “Copy” command at the MS Dos prompt but DO NOT
press the enter key at this stage.

17. Press the INSTALLATION button from the menu on the copier LCD screen-
the following message should be displayed:-

(shown below), press the ENTER (return) key on the PC and also execute
the OK button on the copier LCD screen.

19. A “Please Wait – Installation” message will appear during installation.
Installation can take between 15 – 45 minutes, depending on PC specification.
20. After a successful installation, press the OK button.
The Dos window on the PC will display a “One File Copied” message.
21. When the following message appears, select RESUME BOOT, then the ok
button and wait whilst the AR-PE2 boots.
22. At the language screen, select the name of the language you want to use by
using the scroll up and down arrows to cycle through available languages.
Once the correct language has been selected, the Fiery controller will
automatically boot into the RUN SETUP menu from where the controller can be
configured as normal.
