Setting up a Windows NT4.0 Printer Queue
for Macintosh Clients

Overview:
This procedure outlines one method of printing to a Sharp Copier/Printer via
an NT4.0 Server for Apple MacIntosh computers.
The first part of this procedure is similar to NIS Systems Support Bulletin 005,
“Installation under a Windows NT 4.0 Network.” Please refer to that bulletin if
you require a more detailed procedure, including screen shots.
Pre-requisites:

2) Services for Mac (SFM) and TCP/IP Print Services loaded on the NT
Server, which has been upgraded to Service Pack 5.
Procedure:
On the NT Server
1) Click [Start], Settings, Printers
2) Click on [Add Printer] icon
3) Click on [Next] (This Printer will be managed by my computer)
4) Click on [Add Port] and select “LPR Port”. Note: if a LPR port is not available
it is necessary to cancel the procedure and add the TCP/IP Printing Service
to the Server (This service is installed from the Control Panels /Network,
under the Services tab, and you will need to reboot the Server)
5) Click on [New Port] , in the field which says “ Name of Printer or Print Queue
providing LPD” enter the IP address of the Sharp ARNC1D( NIC ).  In “ Name
of printer or print queue on that server” enter “PORT1”, then click [next]
6) Now insert the diskette containing the files ( ARPB2NT.INF and
MACPB2.PPD) and click [have disk], select the ARPB2NT.INF, click [open]
then [OK]
7) “Printers” window will appear with the “Sharp ARPB2 PS PPD” selected, click
on [Next]
8) “Printer name” window will appear, click [Next] or rename the Printer,
9) “Sharing” window will appear, click on the “shared” button then click [Next]
10) Finally print a test page, by clicking on [Yes] and click [Finish]

If you should receive a message “ The file Pscript.DLL on (Unknown) is needed”,
this file is located on the original NT Server CD or in the “I386” folder on the
server.
Once the test print has printed, you can configure the Printer Queue to match the
options of the machine.  As follows:
11) Highlight the Printer Queue and click the right hand mouse button, select
“Properties”, then “Device settings”.  Scroll down to the installable options
and modify the selections to match the machine set up.  Furthermore if you
add a Drawer desk stand, don’t forget to scroll up to the “Form to tray
assignment” and configure tray 3 to the appropriate paper size.
Your Windows NT Printer Queue is now set up. Next, we need to set up the
Apple MacIntosh to print to this Queue.
On the Apple MacIntosh
1) Install the Apple LaserWriter 8.X driver if it is not already installed  (The

2) Insert the diskette which contains the file – MACPB2.PPD and copy it to the

select the “chooser”
4) Highlight the LaserWriter 8 icon and scroll through the Postscript printer list
until you find exactly the same “Printer name”, that you set up on the NT
server, highlight it and click on [Create]
5) A “Select PPD file” window will appear  - select the “MACPB”.PPD”, configure
the printer by matching the options with those of the machine, then click [OK],
a new desktop printer will be created and a printer icon will appear on the
screen.
You can now use Mac applications to print to this new desktop printer, which will
direct its output via the NT Server Printer Queue to the Sharp Copier/Printer.
