Note: Reducing the value reduces the saturation in the low-density area and
the white area for each copy mode. The saturation in the high-density area is
not affected.

When adjusting Test Simulations 46-01 and 46-02, it is recommended to use both
the Sharp Colour Test Chart (UKOG-0283FCZZ) and the Sharp Grey Scale Chart
(UKOG-0162FCZZ) to adjust the low-density area

Adjust the exposure for both B/W & Colour modes as per specification:-

COLOUR MODE

Using a Sharp Colour Test Chart, adjust each exposure mode in manual exposure
position “3”, until row 7 of the colour bar chart is absent. This involves switching
from Test Simulation mode to operator mode

If each exposure mode value is adjusted by a given amount, make a test copy in all
modes to confirm the copy quality and background level.
“TEST” icon.
Press “CLOSE”, to return to
operator mode. Select the
exposure mode you wish to
adjust, then return to test
command mode by pressing the
“TEST” icon.

BLACK & WHITE MODE

Using the Sharp Grey scale chart, adjust the B/W exposure mode using
    Sim
46-02:-

Note: The AR-C160 should be adjusted to the same level as AR-C250.

After completion, make test copies using the Sharp Colour Test Chart. If the
customer is satisfied with the quality, engine calibration is complete.

If an AR-PE1 or PE2 Print Controller is installed, the controller MUST be re-
calibrated, once engine calibration is finished.
Adjust each exposure
mode until row 7 is
absent

Description:
Troubleshooting excessive Background when copying and printing.

Excessive background can be caused by one or more of the following:-

1.
Incorrect Developer set-up.
2.
Over toning (in low humidity environment).
3.
Incorrect exposure adjustment.
4.
Incorrect Colour Balance adjustment.

Developer Setup:

Ensure ALL developer is acclimatised first before installation.

Machine OverToning in Low Humidity Environments

Ensure ALL engine firmware is at the latest level, as stated previously within this
bulletin. (The toner correction “look up” table has been changed).

To reduce the toner concentration of the developer, use Secret Test Simulation 80-
02 and increase all values by at least 10 points (CMYK). The excess toner will then
need to be removed from the developer units by executing Test Simulation 64-01

Use the following settings:-

Test Pattern
13
  Density
255
  Multi
Count  10

Paper
A3 or A4.
  Colour
CMYK

Once complete, perform Compulsory Process Control (Sim 44-06) and Colour
Calibration (Sim 46-24).

Exposure Adjustment

Use Test Simulations 46-01 & 46-02 to adjust the exposure in both colour and B/W
modes as per specification.

Colour Balance

In addition to the colour balance adjustment stated earlier within this bulletin, the
following should ONLY be performed when excessive background is present:-

Manual Calibration (Test command 46-21)

After printing the first manual calibration printout, fold the page in half. (Notice that
the gamuts for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black drop off to the right of the fold.)

Using the up/down arrows, adjust all four gamuts until they drop off at or near the
fold.

Note: Moving the drop-off point to the left reduces density in the full-tone and half-
tone areas, and moving the drop-off point to the right increases density in the
background areas.

This is a very effective method of reducing background levels.

Ensure Simulations 44-21 (Half Tone Adjustment) & 44-06 (Process Control) are
performed following adjustment.

Other:

If excessive background is being experienced during duplex copying or printing,
check and adjust the DV, MC and Transfer bias outputs as follows :-

1.
Verify that DV bias and MC grid voltages are adjusted to factory
specification (refer to page 2 of this bulletin)
2.
Adjust the Transfer output voltage using Test Simulation 44-30 as
follows:-

    Transfer
Voltage  (Simulation 44-30)
