Configuring the AXIS 700 For
Scanning to E-mail
Model Name:
AR250/286/336/405/505 with AXIS 700 Scan Server
In order to scan to an E-mail address, there must be an SMTP Mail server
running on the network. There are many SMTP Mail server applications
available, including MS Mail, Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes.
Pre-requisites: 
A working and configured SMTP Mail Server.
An AR250/286/336/405/505 with an attached and configured AXIS 700 Scan
Server. (Refer to NIS System Support Bulletin 009 for installing and
configuring the AXIS 700). The IP address of the AXIS 700 will be required.
A computer that is connected to the same network as the AXIS 700, with a
web browser installed. Netscape Communicator/Navigator 2.x or higher or
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 or higher can be used.
 Configure the AXIS 700 scan server to communicate with a mail server.
 Define the E-mail destinations.
Configuring the AXIS 700 Scan Server to communicate with a Mail
Server:
 Open a Web browser and enter the IP address that is set in the AXIS 700
scan server.
 You should now have a connection to the AXIS scan server. A similar
screen to the one below should be seen.

 Click on the Administration button.  You will be prompted to enter a User Name and the server
Password.
 The default username is root and the default password is pass.  Click on the OK buttonThe
screen below should now be displayed.
 Click the Network Settings button in the Administration menu.  The Network Settings page will
be displayed.

 Click the Detailed View button 
 to access the Protocols window. Here we can see an AXIS
700 scan server with TCP/IP parameters already configured.

 Click the E-mail (SMTP) tab to view the display below.
 In the Primary Mail Server field, enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name or IP address of the
SMTP compliant mail server.
 (Optional) In the Secondary Mail Server field, specify the Fully Qualified Domain Name or IP
address of the secondary mail server.  The secondary mail server will be used in case the primary
mail server is disconnected or unavailable.
Note: If you decide to use the name of the mail server instead of the IP address you need to
configure the DNS entries in the TCP/IP section.
 Connection Timeout specifies how long to wait before timing out when connecting to the SMTP
server. This time can not be less than 5 and no more than 65535 seconds. The default value is
10.
 In the Reply Address field, enter the E-mail address that you want to appear in the From field of
the sent E-mail.
 
In the Subject Text field, enter the subject that you want to appear in the Subject field of the sent
E-mail.
 Click OK to apply the changes and exit the Protocols window.
